Spinning Platters’ Top 20 Albums of 2021

By The Spinning Platters Staff

This was an intense year… It feels like we’ve lived 300 in the last 3 months, TBH. Anyways, here’s the Top 20 records of 2021 as voted by the staff at Spinning Platters. You may notice a couple of late 2020 releases here… Similar to the Grammy’s, we don’t do a typical calendar year. Instead, we do 11/20-11/19 as a year. Singles Of The Week: “Pool Hopping” by illuminati hotties & “Solar Power” by Lorde

UPDATE: Lorde’s 3rd full-length record, Solar Power, is coming out August 20th and can be preordered / presaved here. We’ve also got a 2022 tour for Lorde coming down the pike, so get yourself vaccinated if you haven’t already, and buy your tickets Monday, July 5th at 12pm local time!

Remember the immortal words of Kim Deal when she sang “Summer is ready when you are” a mere 28 years ago? Those words probably ring truer this year than ever before. Maybe because this is going to be a weird Summer where not everyone is going to be ready at the same time, but when you are ready for Summer, it’s going to be LIT AS FUCK. Not LIT AF. LIT AS FUCK. So lit that this week we didn’t have just one, but TWO singles about the impending Summer of hugs and sharing space with your friends again. “Pool Hopping” by illuminati hotties is a glorious piece of classic pop-punk that is perfect for blasting at your first barbecue in 15 months. And, dear God, I really can’t wait to eat with my friends again.

“Pool Hopping” can be downloaded and streamed in all of the usual places, and their album Let Me Do One More will be coming your way October 1st. Preorder the fancy variant, or even the regular version HERE! Continue reading “Singles Of The Week: “Pool Hopping” by illuminati hotties & “Solar Power” by Lorde”

Spinning Platters Interview: Niki Bodemann of Noise Pop

This year marks the 26th year that the Noise Pop Festival debuted at The Kennel Club (now The Independent). Since then, it’s grown to become one of the primary tastemaking music festivals in the world! Past performers that have broken shortly after their Noise Pop debut have included The White Stripes, Death Cab for Cutie, Tash Sultana, Vince Staples, and many, many more. Spinning Platters recently got to speak to Niki Bodemann, one of the bookers of the festival to talk about what it takes to make a week of music that even frustrates the most decisive music fan.

Festival badges, single show tickets, and a full schedule can be found here!

Spinning Platters: How long have you been booking for Noise Pop?

Niki Bodemann: So, I have been a full-time talent buyer at Noise Pop for like a year and three months now. Then before that, I was an assistant talent buyer. So, I would like help with the support bookings like all the openers on our shows and stuff um, but like booking actual headliners and stuff. Uh, it’s been a little over a year, yeah.
