So, in a bit of autobiographical information, I was recently “relieved of my working duties.” In fact, that was on Friday, July 10th. I was going to have to work a very long day on the 11th initially, and now I suddenly had the day off. So, I sat around and sulked all day. After I was done sulking, I decided take BART to Berkeley, and go see a show before I couldn’t afford to pay my way in to shows anymore. (This is an exaggeration. I am eligible for unemployment, so I will have some money.) Well, as I am walking towards the show, it starts raining. I see a couple of scalpers, and I talk to one of them that I have seen at shows before. I buy a ticket off him very cheap, because he wanted to get out of the rain.

So, as some of you may know, 7-11 is giving away free slurpees on July 11th this year. What you may not know, is that those slurpees come with a coupon code that allows you to buy tickets to select LiveNation tickets for a deep discount. These are all GA tickets, and most of them are for $7.11. Some are for a bit more, but all are very cheap. Since neither Livenation nor Slurpee is telling people what tickets will be discounted, we did the research for you. Here is a list of the events that they will be selling in the bay area. Go to LiveNation.com on July 11th. Remember, these events are subject to change, and only a small quantity will be available at that price. What follows is a pretty simple list of every single musical act I saw at Glastonbury 2009 for at least one song. There were others that I walked by, and sometimes it takes a whole song to walk by them, but when I don’t know who’s playing until I’m finished walking by them and have gone back to my tent to look at a list of who was just on stage, I don’t think that counts because I wasn’t paying any attention at all. I’m looking at you, The Script (or was it The View?) I’ll make very brief remarks about some acts, and pretty lengthy ones about others. I probably won’t say too much about the music for some bands, but will assume you know them already instead. Find out which acts had me dancing, which had me skankin’, which ones had me screaming, and which one left me in tears. Buckle up, because this is going to take me a while. Another week of shows to keep you occupied at nights, instead of spending it looking for a job or spending time with loved ones.

When last I was writing a diary, everything was going swimmingly as far as getting to the Glastonbury Festival on schedule. But then a funny thing happened while I was on the train. It turned out that accidents on the M3 and M4 had blocked up traffic throughout the region, and the buses were running a bit behind schedule. How much so? I was told to expect a 3 1/2 hour queue. And so, I’ll make “waiting in queues” the first of the Top Six Things That Define “The Glastonbury Experience.” Continue reading “Glastonbury Diary, Part Two: The Experience”
Sorry about last week… We at Spinningplatters.com hope you found something to do, and if not, hope that you aren’t blaming us for that. We know that you still need to write your aunt that thank you letter. You should do it now!

Wilco played the Greek Theater in Berkeley on June 27th, 2009. Somebody fainted. People wore tie-dye.
I’ve seen a lot of bands in my day. I’ve seen a lot of very famous people, and I have been very close to them. I often think that I am immune to the surprise of seeing someone in the flesh that I primarily know from pictures, but Jeff Tweedy is one of those frontpersons that has such a unique charisma, that I my heart skips a beat whenever I see him. Elvis Costello debuted new songs from his record “Secret, Profane, and Sugarcane” at Amoeba Music on Haight Street in San Francisco.
I consider myself to be a music fan. I enjoy listening to music quite a bit. When I’m not listening to music, I am usually talking about music or reading about music. I consider myself to be pretty good at appreciating music… but I will never be as good at it as Elvis Costello. Continue reading “Elvis Costello at Amoeba Records SF”
I’m on my way from Heathrow to Reading, due to arrive at about 15:15. Then I have a 15:44 train to Castle Cary, arriving in a couple of hours from then. Finally, I get on an official Glastonbury Festival shuttle bus, which takes anywhere from 15-45 minutes according to various reports. Continue reading “Glastonbury Diary, Part One”
