Flipper at Cafe du Nord Friday Night! Bring swim trunks!

Let us continue to guide you to high quality live musical performances in your greater civic area. Provided that your area is the same as my area.

Tuesday, July 14th

Tori Amos at San Jose Center For Performing Arts, 8 PM

Tori Amos was one of my favorite artists for many years. And then, I stopped liking her records. I’m not sure if she’s gotten older, or I’ve gotten older, or she has just lacked inspiration. It delights me to say that “Abnormally Attracted To Sin” is her strongest record over a decade, and her band is super solid. Last night’s show at the Paramount was life changing, and expect the same power tonight.

Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head, Hey Champ, The Frail at Cafe du Nord, 9 PM

Nat & Alex Wolff (The Naked Brothers Band) at The Fillmore, 7 PM

Wednesday, July 15th

BJ Thomas at The Alameda County Fair, 6 & 8 PM (Two Sets)

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

Laura Veirs, The Old Believers, Caltado at Cafe du Nord, 8:30 PM

Thursday, July 16th

Ozomatli at The Alameda County Fair, 6 & 8 PM (Two Sets)

Ozomatli are the most consistent live band I have ever seen. They give 110% every night, every show, and I do not see this one being an exception. In fact, this could very well be the most appropriate venue for them. I will be there. You should, too!

Azure Ray, Tim Kasher (Cursive/The Good Life)  at Great American Music Hall, 8 PM

Friday, July 17th

Flipper, Toiling Midgets, Savage Republic at Cafe du Nord, 9 PM

Flipper were arguably the best of the late 70’s/early 80’s SF punk scene.  They were one of Kurt Cobain’s favorite bands, and even had Krist Novoselic on bass for a number of years after they reformed in the late 00’s. Savage Republic were one of the first industrial bands, playing a fusion of musique concrete`, world beat, and noise.  Tonight’s show at Cafe du Nord is an epic piece of musical history not to be missed!

Men, Tussle, The Young Lovers at Bottom Of The Hill, 10 PM

Voodoo Glow Skulls, Monkey, Dustonious Maximus at The Blank Club (San Jose), 10 PM

Saturday, July 18th

Mika Miko, Audacity, Street Eaters, Boats at 924 Gilman, 8 PM

Mika Miko have the insanity & skill of The Stooges. Sure, you might not ended up swallowing the blood of any member of the band, but if you want to know what it would be like is Raw Power was recorded by young women from LA, this is it.

Chixdiggit, Kepi Ghoulie, Head, The Pleasure Kills at Thee Parkside, 9 PM

Dead Meadow, Kelly Stoltz, Persephone’s Bees, The Rubies, Bart Davenport, The Moore Brothers, others at McLaren Park, 4 PM (Free!)

Sunday, July 19th

Sergent Garcia, Curumin at Stern Grove, 2 PM

Sergent Garcia started out in the underground punk scene in Brazil, and created on fusion of Clash-style punk rock, salsa, and funk. It will be a fiery, fun set! Put on your dancing shoes, and pack a light lunch. Don’t want to get a stomach ache from all your grooving!

Lavay Smith, Carmen Getit, Belle Monroem (Patsy Cline Tribute Show) at Cafe du Nord, 7 & 9 PM

Pato Banton, Better Chemistry at The Independent, 9 PM

Monday, July 20th

Blue Oyster Cult, The CoverGrrlz at Slim’s,  8 PM

The SNL sketch was many years ago. And people will be requesting more cow bell. And there will be plenty of cow bell. Many people will be asking for cow bell when they don’t even know why. I think we, as people, just love cow bell.

Miranda Lee Richards, Emily Jane White, Helene Renaut, Chloe Makes Music at Cafe du Nord, 8 PM
