Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/13/14-3/20/14

Green and purple, green and purple... — Green and purple, green and purple…

It’s a time for brightly-colored short people this week in The Bay Area – namely, leprechauns and one certain Minneapolan.

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. Happily, Celtic punkers Flogging Molly happen to be passing through the Fox Theater in Oakland on their tenth and final Green 17 tour.

And just the next night, Prince will be playing the same stage. You can be sure that the Twin Cities’ favorite son will be bringing quite a few purple guitars to The Fox. Green, then purple! The Joker would be pleased.

Here’s what else is coming up this week.

Spinning Platters Tells You What Noise Pop 2014 Shows To Go To

Spinning Platters is helping you decide which noisey pop you will be enjoying during Noise Pop!

Noise Pop can be intimidating. It’s the best week of live music programming in the Bay Area, and sometimes it’s hard to decide what to go to, because you can’t always be in two places at once. (However, I will be going to two shows on Friday night. I’m a bit insane.) So, if I were deciding what shows you were going to, this is what this shows would be. Disagree? Well, you can decide for yourself by checking the schedule out here. Continue reading “Spinning Platters Tells You What Noise Pop 2014 Shows To Go To”

Spinning Platters Interview: Comedian David Gborie

David Gborie is one of the funniest men in San Francisco today. Spinning Platters had a chance to chat with him ahead of his sets at Sketchfest, performing tonight at The California Academy of Sciences, and Friday, January 31st bringing his popular stand up showcase Get Yucked Up to Cinecave in the Mission. He’s also going to be live commentating on the Super Bowl this Sunday at The Roxie, as part of SF Indiefest’s 4th Annual Super Bowl: Men In Tights. He’s a pretty fascinating guy with a lot to say. In fact, too much to say, so I’ve uploaded audio of the entire interview, but after the jump, I’ll pass you a few highlights.

Wake up and go to shows this week! So many shows... — Wake up and go to shows this week! So many shows…

The thirteenth annual SF Sketchfest is upon us, littering San Francisco with night after night of too many good things at once.

Anti-bunny. — Sometimes there are signs that insist on no bunny.

You need to know what concerts are coming to The Bay Area this week? You’ve come to the right place.

We’ve got folk rock, pop metal, malicious metal, the cosmic intersection of country and rock, and the most highly-weaponized pop that US dollars can purchase.

It’s a good week.

Here’s what’s coming up.
