The Thermals, Colleen Green at The Chapel

God bless The Thermals. They satisfy a much needed need for pure, dirty, meat & potatoes rock n roll. That wonderful sound that is fuzzy and groovy that helps remind you that life is a good thing. The Thermals put you in place where you can scream about your troubles, and then let them go in a glorious way.

Phantogram, White Sea at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Friday, February 21st

Propaghandi, Flatliners, War On Women at Oakland Metro Operahouse

It’s been a long time since Canada’s finest political punkers have been to the states. A really long time… So long that it’s hard to believe that this isn’t a reunion tour. I have no idea when they are going to come around again, either, so this is one you really shouldn’t miss…

Pixies, Best Coast at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Saturday, February 22nd

GREEN JELLY, Total BadAss, Guantanamo Dogpile, Dizasstor, KushGrinder, Crimson at Oakland Metro Operahouse

Sometimes you just need to do as Beavis & Butthead tell you to.

Magic Trick, Kevin Morby, Joseph Childress at The Chapel

Sunday, February 23rd

Two Gallants, Trainwreck Riders at The Independent

Two of San Francisco’s finest bands in one night at one of San Francisco’s finest venues. Both bands do an excellent job and bringing a punk energy to American music- Two Gallants amp up the blues, and Trainwreck Riders amp up country music. A fantastic double bill to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Independent.

Suzy Bogguss at Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse

Monday, February 24th

Miley Cyrus, Icona Pop, Sky Ferreira at Oracle Arena

Sure, we are all a little sick of seeing Miley Cyrus’ tongue. It definitely kind of annoys me. That being said, her 2013 release Bangerz is full of, well, bangers. Plus, Icona Pop put on an amazing live show, and Sky Ferreira’s reputation might actually be more drug fueled that Cyrus’.

Courtney Barnett, KINS, Rich Girls, Fever The Ghost at Rickshaw Stop

This was my favorite single of 2013:

Tuesday, February 25th

Sharon Corr at Yoshi’s – San Francisco

Most of us remember the Irish influenced soft rock of The Corrs. They were OK. However, Sharon Corr put out an amazing solo record without her siblings, full of wonderful jazz and pop sounds.

Wednesday, February 26th

Cibo Matto, Salt Cathedral at Great American Music Hall

Japan’s favorite pop deconstructionists are doing their first headlining tour of the US in over a decade. This is a very special show, and it’s going to be mighty epic.
