HOW DID I GET HERE with Rakel Mjöll of Dream Wife

Rakel Mjöll is the lead singer of the UK punk band Dream Wife. This conversation was witty and full of positive, inspirational energy. Also, nothing has made me want to get drenched in shared sweat at a rock show more than this chat. Dream Wife’s third full-length, Social Lubrication, is available to preorder here and is in stores on June 9th. UK Fans (or those willing to pay more for shipping than the cost of the album) can get one of the few remaining extra-creepy gel-sleeve editions of the album here. (UK Fans coming to the US after this ship and looking for a present for me? This is a good option.)

Tour Dates can be found here, and once again, I’d love to dance with you at Bottom Of The Hill on the 20th of September!

BONUS Single Of The Week: “Orbit” by Dream Wife

Remember in 2021 when I kept posting Wet Leg singles, and they ended up becoming the biggest thing in 2022? Well, every single off Dream Wife’s third record, Social Lubrication (Out June 9th), has been incredible, and I think there is a reasonable chance that 2023 will be the year of Dream Wife. “Orbit” is a dance-punk piece of infectiousness that you will listen to on repeat until the next single drops.

Also, they dropped a small assortment of US dates that you can see below. And if you happen to be visiting the UK from the Bay Area in June and can pick me up a copy of this version of Social LubricationI’ll pay you back when you return to the States.

September 15 – Brooklyn, NY, USA @ Brooklyn Made

September 17 – Portland, OR, USA @ Mississippi Studios

September 18 – Seattle, WA, USA @ Barboza

September 20 – San Francisco, CA, USA @ Bottom Of The Hill

September 21 – Los Angeles, CA, USA @ Zebulon

Single Of The Week: “Hot (Don’t Date A Musician)” by Dream Wife

I try to avoid picking multiple singles off the same album for “Single Of The Week,” but I damn, Dream Wife are fantastic. “Leech,” the first single from Social Lubrication (due out June 9th!was a pretty passionate and angry song that hit all the right feels for me at that moment. “Hot (Don’t Date A Musician)” is a driving rock number that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Something that’s VITAL. It’s hard to find the fun in life sometimes, and this song doesn’t it nicely.

Don’t forget to do all the “pre-” things to ensure proper listening enjoyment when Social Lubrication comes your way in June!
