Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Fool’s Gold, Local Natives at The Independent, 8 PM
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are a large band started by a semi-popular indie rock band breaking up, and the lead singer having bigger, bolder ambitions with the music. But, this is not the Polyphonic Spree. Still a bit insane, but a little bit darker and maybe even a bit more ambitious.

Wednesday, September 16th
The Arctic Monkeys, The Like at The Fox Theater (Oakland), 8 PM
The Arctic Monkeys have made it past the sophomore slump, and have produced an excellent record for junior year. The Like are still sitting on their second album, but this LA trio have spent their time out of the studio working the road hard, and each time around they grow stronger. A great double bill at a great venue.
Thursday, September 17th
The Avengers, Pansy Division, Paul Collins Beat at The Uptown Nightclub, 9 PM
The Avengers opened for the Sex Pistols at Winterland in 1978. They broke up before they released their debut album. In 1999, Lookout Records released a disc of odds ‘n ends to make up for the fact that their sole album has been unavailable for years, stuck in record label limbo. Ten years later after that release, and 26 years after its original release, that album is finally back in stores! I consider it to be one of the most important records in musical history at its record re-release party. Providing support is the Bay Area’s queer punk legends, Pansy Division!
