When I was in high school, I saw Dance Hall Crashers probably around 5 or 6 times. They were bloody amazing. Karina Denike was one of two lead singers, and now she’s doing sort of a retro jazz thing that is pretty impressive. JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound are also on the retro side, doing classic R&B. The combo in the classiest, retro venue in town? A fantastic night out…

Anthemic chiptune heroes Anamanaguchi roll through the Bay Area this week. Witness their epic joyous guitar rock-outs. Jams for final boss levels that never existed. Anamanaguchi are what getting the power-up sounds like. Everything’s exploding for them right now — the album is fabulous, their Kickstarter blew up, and they’re going to be minting their own limited edition NES cartridges. Girl In A Coma are an amazing band that fuses together elements of rockabilly, goth, new wave, and power pop into a blissful and unique sound, all of which centers around the stunning and powerful voice of lead singer Nina Diaz. Diaz has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard.

Sonny & The Sunsets are almost an old fashioned, LA folk rock group. Only they aren’t from LA, they are from the Sunset district of San Francisco and Jackson Browne is not actual in the group. Either way, they are more than excellent.
