It’s been a really long time since Tilly & The Wall last came to San Francisco. Their sounds is very unique- a blend of indie rock, folk, disco, and tap dance that is unlike anyone around. The harmonies are chilling, yet you can still dance to them! I’ve been waiting for this show for four years. Please come out so we don’t have to wait another four.

Die Antwoord, Aziz & III, Seth Troxler, Paul Kalkbrenner at The Fox Theater – Oakland
Die Antwoord are vulgar, and possibly even a bit homophobic. They also produce some of the most interesting beats around, and put on one of the best live shows in hip hop. The dominating force in this band is Yo-Landi Vi$$er, a female MC that not only has amazing stage presence, but might be the fiercest MC in the business.

Brandi Carlile, Blitzen Trapper at The Fox Theater – Oakland
Brandi Carlile is the kind of voice that you would get if Patsy Cline and Jeff Buckley could have teamed taught a voice class. She combines power and fragility in a beautiful way, and puts on an impressive live show, too!

I Fight Dragons, MC Lars, Skyfox at Slim’s
There’s a sort-of-but-not-really popular form of hip-hop called nerdcore, where MCs who identify as nerds do songs about math and video games and other geeky pursuits. I Fight Dragons is to “emo” as MC Frontalot is to Jay Z, for they are geekmo, or nerdpop, or whatever fake genre you feel like inventing. They’re a rock band that write insanely catchy power pop ditties about things like beating Ganon (the boss in Zelda; not a dragon). Like Weezer if they were actually geeky.

Japandroids, Bleached at The Fillmore
Two bands. Four people. The noise of 1,000 guitars. That’s what you will get at The Fillmore tonight. This will be the loudest and fiercest show this fall. Also: Celebration Rock will be at the top of everyone’s Album Of The Year list, so if you don’t already know it, you really need to wake up and smell the feedback.

Death Cab for Cutie are taking a breather. Which means we get the pleasure of hearing one of the most delicate voices in rock with accompanied by simple acoustic guitar or piano. This will be a beautiful show, and also, since there’s no Death Cab, we might actually get some Postal Service material.
