Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 11/22/12-11/28/12

Henry Rollins opted to spend Thanksgiving at a much better restaurant this year.

Did you really think I’d live you hanging on Thanksgiving day? Of course not… If Henry Rollins is working on Thanksgiving, then I am, too!

Thursday, November 22nd

Henry Rollins: The Long March at Yoshi’s – San Francisco

It seems that Henry Rollins has retired entirely from music. Which is fine, because he’s best when there isn’t a big rock band behind him. His spoken word performances, which consist of jokes, political musings, and storytelling are fantastic. And, since it’s Thanksgiving Day, you will obviously be sick of hearing your angry, drunk uncle tell you how liberals are ruining society. So, instead, come out to the city and hear your angry, sober uncle tell you how conservatives are ruining society! (Also performing 11/23 & 11/25)

Friday, November 23rd

Wallpaper., Midi Matilda, The Frail at Slim’s

Ricky Reed  may be the hardest working man in show business. When Wallpaper. were due to embark on their biggest tour ever, co-headlining all across America with UK hitmaker Neon Hitch, the tour was scrapped due to Visa issues. So, instead, Reed popped out two killer new singles! He will be playing these, along with all of those killer, booze fueled songs that we know and love from the bay area’s funkiest dude to ever play in a prog-emo band.

The English Beat, The Impalers at Bimbo’s 365 Club

Saturday, November 24th

Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings at Davies Symphony Hall

Davies Symphony Hall is San Francisco’s version of Radio City Music Hall. Whenever anyone plays there that is from outside of the classical music world,  it’s a big deal. When it’s a soul group on an indie label? Then you really need to take notice. Of course, Sharon Jones will force you to take notice in any room she walks into.

Dick Dale, Jonny Manack & The Depressives at Uptown Nightclub – Oakland

Monday, November 26th

Dethklok, Machine Head, All That Remains, The Black Dhalia Murder at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Dethklok are rock music’s finest self fulfilling prophecy: They are a cartoon band from a TV show about the world’s most popular death metal band. By virtue of this TV show, they actually became the world’s most popular death metal band. They may actually be the most popular cartoon band since The Archies, too!

Tuesday, November 27th

Deep Sea Diver, Wild Belle, Sunrunners at Bottom Of The Hill

Deep Sea Diver is Jessica Dobson, best known as Beck’s Modern Guilt era guitarist. She does bright and energetic indie rock. Wild Belle is the brother/sister duo of Natalie & Elliott Bergman. The only way I could describe them is that they are what would happen if a pair of French hipsters in the 60’s started a reggae band. Together they make a great excuse to go out on a Tuesday night.

Alice Cooper, Kill Devil Hill at The Warfield

Wednesday, November 28th

Math The Band, Death Ray, Hurrican RuPaul, Nervous Energy at Uptown Nightclub

Math The Band have been filed under “nerdcore.” They are a super perky synth punk band that are really into video games. They are also part of this new movement where the aggressive bands are also the happiest bands out there, which leads to the joy of a happy mosh.
