Spinning Platters Picks Six (x2) – 12 Best Musical Moments of 2009 from TV or Movies

Since I probably watch more TV and movies than 98% of the population I thought I would bring you a list of great musical moments I saw in 2009.  Please enjoy the videos below whether they are new to you or a reminder of your favorites.  Please leave your choices in the comments, though I must mention two things were left off this list on purpose.  First, the Michael Jackson movie This Is It which I did not see and will never see. The second, Kanye making an ass out of himself during Taylor Swift’s VMA award speech, isn’t really musical, or at least there is no song associated, so it didn’t qualify.

1.  Susan Boyle “I Dreamed a Dream”, proving unattractive people can sing too.

2. In the Glee Pilot Episode “Don’t Stop Believing” is the moment you fall in love with the show.

3. Parodies of “Single Ladies”.  There’s nothing funnier than a man in a leotard and heels. My favs – Justin Timberlake and Joe Jonas.

SNL:

Joe Jonas:

4.  Lady Gaga bleeds to death on the MTV VMA’s for the “Paparazzi”

5.  “Where the Wild Things Are” trailer – Spike Jonze and Arcade Fire make me want to see a movie I have no interest in.

6.  “Cat People (Putting Out Fire)” by David Bowie helps Shosanna get ready to kill some Nazis in Inglourious Basterds.  Badass-ness ensues.

7.  More ridiculousness brought to you by Saturday Night Live and Andy Samberg “On a Boat”

8. The “Ponyo” theme song (Japanese) may never leave your head again.

9.  (500) Days of Summer shows us its music nerd heart with a dance number to Hall and Oates’ “You Make my Dreams Come True”.

10.  Hannah Montana gives up the awful wig, and Miley Cyrus gives us “The Climb”, finally showing little girls everywhere you are best when you are yourself.

11. Dramatic readings of “Poker Face” by Jude Law and Christopher Walken.  Proving without a doubt that 2009 is the year of GaGa.

12. Stephen Colbert channels Jay-Z with Alicia Keys on “Empire State of Mind”
