February is a pretty nutty month for shows in SF. And that’s not just counting Noise Pop… The weeks warming up to Noise Pop are pretty insane, too! So, clear your schedule, and go out to a few shows!
Dakin’s taking the week off to play with his cat and get ready for the Treasure Island Music Festival. I’m ready for the festival — Friendly Fires, Cut Copy, Explosions in the Sky, Death Cab For Cutie, Empire of the Sun, Battles, Geographer, Aloe Blacc, many more, bring it! — so I’m suggesting shows for the rest of the week.
Since I’m filling in recommending shows to see this week, I’m changing things up! Some nights, I’ll recommend only one show, meaning if you’re not seeing this, you can stay home, play with the cats, cook dinner for your loved ones, or anything else you feel like doing. And other nights, I’ll recommend many shows, which means if you’re not at a show, you’d better have a darned good excuse! (And if you’re in Vegas this weekend, say hi. On episode 13 of the Spinning Platters podcast, we welcome Eric Frederick of the bands Wallpaper and Facing New York. We discuss his music, other people’s music, and for once, stay mainly on topic. Thanks to Eric for joining us, and we recommend checking out Wallpaper on New Year’s Eve at Club 1994. Click the giant button to the left to subscribe to our podcast on iTunes, or listen below.

Ever since I was introduced to The Gaslight Anthem and their brilliant breakthrough album, The ’59 Sound, I’ve wanted to see them live. I missed a couple of chances due to unsolvable conflicts, but last night I finally got the chance. As a devoted reviewer, I got there plenty early to check out the three opening bands as well. Four bands on one bill can be a bit much, especially for a Sunday night. So how did it all go in the end? Welcome to the next part of the saga… I will tell you what shows you will be going to this week, and then you marry my 2nd cousin, but just so you can stake claim to his portion of the hope diamond.
