Festival Review: NOFX -The Final Shows-

41 Years of Fucking Up: NOFX Bids Us Farewell

To call this an end of an era is the most obvious understatement. Forty years of fucking shit up as a punk band is a long time, and while some bands have been at it for just as long if not longer, the impact of NOFX cannot be overstated. They did things DIY when their peers were signing on with and subsequently getting dropped by major labels. They’ve courted controversy, spoken their minds, and rocked the fuck out while doing it. Will be playing the classics for two nights at The Regency Ballroom

Dakin’s taking the week off to play with his cat and get ready for the Treasure Island Music Festival. Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 4/28/11 – 5/4/11

He thought he was playing The Fillmore tonight, but it's not him.

Since I’m filling in recommending shows to see this week, I’m changing things up! Some nights, I’ll recommend only one show, meaning if you’re not seeing this, you can stay home, play with the cats, cook dinner for your loved ones, or anything else you feel like doing. And other nights, I’ll recommend many shows, which means if you’re not at a show, you’d better have a darned good excuse!  (And if you’re in Vegas this weekend, say hi. Click that cool floating contact bar on the left.) Continue reading “Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 4/28/11 – 5/4/11”

Ever since I was introduced to The Gaslight Anthem and their brilliant breakthrough album, The ’59 Sound, I’ve wanted to see them live.  I missed a couple of chances due to unsolvable conflicts, but last night I finally got the chance.  As a devoted reviewer, I got there plenty early to check out the three opening bands as well.  Four bands on one bill can be a bit much, especially for a Sunday night.  So how did it all go in the end?
