Thursday, August 9th

Cafe Tacvba, Bang Data at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Cafe Tacvba are one of the most creative and eclectic bands on Earth. They respectfully incorporate elements of salsa, disco, punk, and metal, and turn it into a massive party. Of course, a band is only as good as it’s fans, and these are some of the most energetic fans on earth. If you want to let go and just get caught up in a fun, aerobic moment, spend the night with these guys.

Of Monsters and Men, Papa at California Academy of Sciences

Friday, August 10th – Sunday August 11th

Outside Lands Music Festival at Golden Gate Park

I don’t know how they will ever top this one. It really is the best line up they’ve ever had. Plus: when will get to follow Norah Jones with Metallica? And Yellow Ostrich might be my new favorite band.

Friday, August 10th

Sharon von Etten, Dosh at Rickshaw Stop

Of course, the Outside Lands night shows are pretty awesome, too. This will be the last time you will ever get to see someone as talented at Sharon von Etten in such a small space.

Saturday, August 11th

Shonen Knife, The Mallard, Girls With Guns at The Blank Club

Yes, we’ve got our big rock festival in the park this weekend. So, it seems only fair that the South Bay folks have some fun, too!

Kimya Dawson, Only Son at Hella Jelly Warehouse

Of course, if you don’t want to go to the  Sunset, or the South Bay, this will be pretty awesome. Either $5, or free if you win our contest!

Sunday, August 12th

Dead Can Dance at The Greek Theater — Berkeley

It’s pretty amazing that the same folks that are putting on Outside Lands also have two big shows going on the same night as the close of Outside Lands. This gig is especially exciting, as Dead Can Dance rarely tour, and to see this groundbreaking world music fusion act in a beautiful outdoor venue will be a treat.

Monday, August 13th

Heart at Mountain Winery – Saratoga

I’m generally not a fan of the classic rock. But, if I had to pick a favorite it’s Heart. Oft considered to be the first women to be accepted by the mainstream arena rock community, these folks are bona fide legends with amazing songs and an even better live show!

Wednesday, August 15th

Shannon & The Clams, Audacity, Primitive Hearts at Knockout

It feels like we are never much more than a few weeks away from a Shannon & The Clams show. Which might mean that you’ve never been to one. That is a very, very foolish thing to do. Their reverb soaked rockabilly is perfect for cocktailing on a Wednesday night in the outer mission. Or, well, anywhere, for that matter.
