The Offspring are coming to town on Sunday!
The Offspring are coming to town on Sunday!

Summer is nearly over, but there is still plenty to do. Including two really inexpensive, all day music events in the Bay Area for you to celebrate this holiday weekend.

Thursday, August 28th

Roy Hargrove Quintet at Yoshi’s – Jack London Square

Roy Hargrove is one of the greatest musicians of our time. He is one of the most impressive trumpet players around, and he’s more than willing to experiment with all sorts of sounds. This is going to be on insane treat to your ears.

Brand New, Broncho, Joyce Manor at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Friday, August 29th

Mission Of Burma, Broncho, Coo Coo Birds at The Independent

Mission of Burma is an amazing band. They are one of the most groundbreaking acts of the post punk era, doing amazingly cerebral, claustrophobic post punk for over 30 years. This is going to be an evening of art rock bliss that should not be missed.

The Trims, The Lovemakers at Blank Club

Saturday, August 30th

Cinecave Stand Up Showcase at Lost Weekend Video

There are a tone of great comedians in this town, and the basement of Lost Weekend Video on Valencia is, literally, the best room for comedy in all of SF. Tonight’s event features a laundry list of greats from the bay: Kelly Anneken, Adam Pearlstein, Allison Mick, Irene Tu, Kevin Renner & Lalique d’Bruzzi. So, when you are trying to sort out your Saturday Night plans, this is the place to go!

Sunday, August 31st

The Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Vandals, Stiff Little Fingers at Shoreline Amphitheater

Smash was a record that meant a great deal to me in high school. Mostly because the girl I liked made a copy of it for me. I recently went back to this record, and it holds up in a way that I never would’ve expected. Tonight, The Offspring are playing this record beginning to end. Plus, these openers are bloody amazing.

Monday, September 1st

Heiro Day at Linden Street Brewery

This line up is crazy! A free day of hip hop in Oakland, headlined by the great Heiroglyphics, with Grouch, Eligh, Zion-I, Planet Asia, Mac Mall, Mystik Journeymen, Los Rakas, and way too many more to count. This is going to be an amazing day of music, and you don’t even have to play for it! (You do need a ticket, so please register!)

Tuesday, September 2nd

Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Girls & Boys at Mountain Winery

Elvis Costello is amazing. You know that. You already have a ticket. If not, I don’t know you.

Jimbo Trout at The Chapel

Wednesday, September 3rd

Happy Fangs, Night Genes at The Chapel Bar
