It’s been far too long since Gillian Welch has graced us with a solo record. Her delicate, depression-era-inspired folk music is very appropriate for our era, and she has been sorely, sorely missed. It feels good to have her back, and she is still feeling as blue as ever, which is great for all of those that have been eagerly awaiting this show.

Jill Sobule & John Doe at Cafe du Nord
The first time that I had ever heard Jill Sobule was at the grand opening of the Virgin Megastore on Powell St in San Francisco… Jill Sobule, X, and Cyndi Lauper all played that show, and it was amazing! Sobule has great stage presence, and owned the huge space. She still writes a great song, and although I have no idea what she’s going to do with X’s John Doe, but it I’m excited to see this collaboration happen.

The Elected is Blake Sennett, best known as “the other one” in Rilo Kiley… Sadly, he doesn’t have the same name recognition as Jenny Lewis, he writes some fantastic summer folk rock, and seeing this band in the middle of July is perfect! His latest record, Bury Me In Rings is more of the same awesomeness.
