Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 7/28/11-8/2/11

From the "whatever happened to?" file: One of these people is playing a show this week.

So, I’ve spend the last few days drooling over the Treasure Island Festival line up… So much that I almost forgot to do this. But, that would be sad for everyone out there, because this week is awesome. Besides, there are great shows every night until that shindig happens.

Thursday, July 28th

Billy & Dolly, Karina Denike, Carletta Sue Kay at Bottom Of The Hill

One of the bay area’s secret treasures, this duo plays beautiful, Elliot Smith inspired folky and atmospheric rock music. This is their last show after a string of pretty high profile opening slots (Corin Tucker, Dr Dog) before going back in the studio to record their next record.

This song is one if the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard, FYI:

Also, Karina Denike is opening. She was a Dance Hall Crasher. That’s awesome:

Thee Oh See’s, The Royal Baths, Mike Donovan, Blasted Canyons at Uptown Nightclub

Friday, July 29th

Woods, Fresh & Only’s, The Mantles at The Independent

I love Woods. They are the perfect balance if traditional indie rock and exciting, experimental noise. They are playing a festival Big Sur this weekend, but that’s sold out. Instead, we get to see them here, without bothering with camping and other festival nonesense.

Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow at Shoreline Amphitheater

Saturday, July 30th

Bam Bam, Silent Pictures, Schande at Hemlock Tavern

The Muffs, Turbonegra, The Bruises, Talky Tina at Uptown Nightclub

CJ Ramone, Eastern Span, Jokes For Feelings at The New Parish

Sunday, July 31st

Rasputina, Smoke Fairies at Great American Music Hall

Cellos are awesome. Cellos in a rock band? More awesome. Cellos as the lead instrument in a rock band? Super awesome. Just cello and drums in your band? That’s balls out awesome.

Deborah Lyall, True Margrit, Kate Kilbane & The Cellar Doors at Bottom Of The Hill

Monday, August 1st

Tally Hall, Speak, Casey Shea at Bottom Of The Hill

Yemen Blues at The Independent

Tuesday, August 2nd

Real Estate, Dominant Legs, Melted Toys at  The Independent
