Opening for Sebadoh at Cafe du Nord on the 31st

July is almost over?!?!?! How did that happen!?!?!? To cope with that news, go see some shows! Heck, if you enter our contest by 9 am on July 25th, we’ll put you on the guest list to Weekend at The Independent on July 26th!

Thursday, July 25th

Courtney Love, STARRED at The Independent

There are two types of shows Courtney Love does: precise, focused sets of classic alternative rock and sloppy, meandering train wrecks where she rambles about nonesense for hours without playing much music. Either way, you will definitely be getting your money’s worth.

Weezer, The Limousines at America’s Cup Pavilion

Friday, July 26th

Justin Timberlake and Jay Z at Candlestick Park

The final ticketed Beatles concert was in 1966. Nobody knew it at the time, but it was historical. This may be the last concert to every happen in this historic venue, and it is one of epic proportions: Justin Timberlake, the biggest star in the world and Jay Z, a man who is also larger than life. These shows have been epic 40 song sets, with every song you’d ever want by these two talents.

Weekend, Wax Idols, Chasm at The Independent

Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School Of Medicine, DI, The Divvy’s, Girl-illa Biscuits at Uptown Nightclub

Saturday, July 27th

The Postal Service, Divine Fits, Baths at The Greek Theater

Only a decade after the had the best selling record in the history of Sub Pop, this indie rock supergroup is finally doing a real tour. So, please, dust off your cardigan and ride your bike to Berkeley to attend the rock n roll show that you’ve been waiting for since Freshman Year.

SF Symphony Presents The Matrix with live score at Davies Symphony Hall

The Lumerians, Clip’d Beaks, 3 Leafs at Uptown Nightclub

Sunday, July 28th

Fitz & The Tantrums, The Colourist at The Warfield

The current retro soul movement has been full of great acts, but only one band has truly crossed over: Fitz & The Tantrums. No longer just a cult band, these folks have a slew of bona fide hit singles under the belt- especially impressive for a band without a guitar player!

Kid Rock., ZZ Top at Shoreline Amphitheater

Monday, July 29th

Convalescents, Stabbed In The Back, Civil War Rust at Eli’s Mile High Club

Tuesday, July 30th

Posole, Drew Southern, Puff Puff Pass at Boom Boom Room

John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Room is a beautiful and underrated venue. There is always a really good vibe to the place, and every that goes there seems to be really cool. Posole are a local band that do a really hot blend of latin rock and surf with a killer horn section.

Son Volt, Colonel Ford at The Fillmore

Wednesday, July 31st

Sebadoh, Octa#grape at Cafe du Nord

Lou Barlow is a busy man for an old rocker. After recording new music and touring with Dinosaur Jr, Lou is recording new stuff with/as Sebadoh, his lo-fi fuzz-rock outfit that he formed after being kicked/driven-out of Dino Jr in the 1980s. In fact, Sebadoh’s new “Secret EP” is only being sold in physical form on tour. Who’d have thought that indie rock’s Little Mr Upset would grow, make peace, and keep creating music with his bands. There is indie rock to be made after age 45. Wouldn’t have guessed that based on earlier upsettedness, but it is great to see happen. Rock on, Lou. <Christopher Rogers>

Guttermouth, Agent Orange, Civil War Rust, The Swellerz at The New Parish
