When I hear the name "Nashville Pussy," this is what I think of. Also, there's a benefit for Cat Town tonight.

Burnt Palms, Bam! Bam!, Yea Ming & The Rumours, #1 Smash Hits at The Night Light

Tonight at Night Light, we are getting treated to an evening of fabulous rock n roll music. Great, infectious rock from Burnt Palms and Bam! Bam! will be a treat to both your ears and your booty tonight. Even better is that your $7 cover is going straight to Cat Town, the wonderful organization working to find homes for homeless cats. So, it’s a win for everybody!

Timbre Timbre, Tasseomancy at The Independent

Friday, June 6th

tUnE-yArDs, Sylvan Esso at The Fillmore

Oakland’s own tUnE-yArDs are back with their most infectious and accessible album yet. nikki nack is going to move this band from indie darlings to pop superstars, if anything is right in this world. Opening is Sylvan Esso, another band doing some amazing world music influenced pop music that will be playing arenas before you know it.

Les Claypool’s Duo de Twang, Reformed Whores at Great American Music Hall

Legendary Primus Frontman Les Claypool has been experimenting again. This time, he’s doing a set of originals, covers, and Primus material in a traditional country and western style. It might actually be more amazing than you expect it to be.

The Meat Sluts, VKTMS, Girls With Guns at El Rio

Sunday, June 8th

Michael Ian Black, Sean Keane at The Chapel

Sure, he’s not a musician. His brilliant show The State on MTV, as well as his semi-regular appearances on VH-1’s I Love The ??’s and Best Week Ever may have been an indirect cause for those stations to stop airing music videos. Either way, the man is a comedy legend, and this is a very rare, very special evening at The Chapel where we get to enjoy this groundbreaking comedian doing stand up instead of his other job of hosting every TV show, selling Doritos, and podcasting.

Nashville Pussy, Catl, The Yawpers at Thee Parkside

Tuesday, June 10th

Eels, Chelsea Wolfe at The Palace Of Fine Arts

There isn’t much left to be said about Eels that hasn’t been said before. Mark Oliver Everett has been putting out emotionally direct, stunning pop records for over 20 years. He’s never released a clunker, and the live show is exceedingly entertaining. Also, he got Steve Perry of Journey singing again, so at least he’s done one really bad thing.

Wednesday, June 11th

Guided By Voices, Bobby Bare Jr at The Regency Ballroom

I didn’t think the Guided By Voices reunion was going to stick. However, it’s been four years and they are still playing 1,000 song set lists, and may actually sound better live than they did back in the day. Rob Pollard isn’t getting any younger, so you might want to cease this moment well you can.
