Another week. Another crop of shows.

Thursday, May 23rd

The Detroit Cobras, Pangea, The Chaw at Slim’s

Detroit’s garage soul punk fusionists have been doing blistering  shows for almost 15 years, and they’ve managed to hone their live show into brutal, high energy blast of rock n roll energy.

Bobby Joe Ebola & The Children MacNuggits, Water Tower, Tornado Rider, Mystic Knights Of The Cobra at Great American Music Hall

Friday, May 24th

The Presets, Dragonette, Jerome LOL at The Fox Theater – Oakland

The Presets are alright. The real reason to go to this show is to see Dragonette- the amazing synth pop band from Canada is chock full of bubbly, bouncy hooks and beats, and will totally dust the headliner. Trust me!

Imperial Teen, Churches, Gone To Ground at Bottom Of The Hill

Saturday, May 25th

LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, De La Soul at Shoreline Amphitheater

De La Soul and Public Enemy are both road warriors that have redefined what a live hip hop performance is like. Ice Cube and LL Cool J are lyrical legends and groundbreakers that have managed to bring hip hop to the masses without sacrificing, well anything. (Unless you count some less than credible acting gigs. Art doesn’t put food on the table.) Put it together, and you’ve got one of the best bills hitting the sheds this year!

Presidents Of The USA, Eternal Summers at The Independent

Sunday, May 26th

Bill Idol, Finish Ticket at Mountain Winery

Bolt Thrower, Autopsy, Noothgrush, Benediction at Oakland Metro Opera House

Tuesday, May 28th

Bjork at Craneway Auditorium

It took about two years for Bjork to finally do a full fledged tour for her Biophilia multimedia project. However, it was worth the wait, as she’s bringing to the stunning Craneway Auditorium a tesla coil, a bespoke pipe organ that accepts digital information, a pin-barrel harp, a midi-controlled gamelan-celesta hybrid, a pendulum-harp that harnesses the earth’s gravitational pull to create musical patterns and an Icelandic women’s choir as her back up band. This will be a mind blowing experience.

Suuns, Wymond Miles, Foli at Bottom Of The Hill

Wednesday, May 29th

Akron/Family, Avi Buffalo, M. Geddes Gengras at The Independent

Akron/Family are an amazing psych folk band that are a pure treasure for the ears. And, for their latest record, they have even added elements of metal that adds little explosions into their already blissful fix of sound.

Chvrches, Still Corners at Mezzanine
