Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/12/15-3/18/15

This is about as Tweedy as it can get.
This is about as Tweedy as it can get.

Although many of our friends will be hanging out at SXSW this week, we’ve still got plenty of good times in store. Time to enjoy our deserted city and enjoy a few shows without crazy crowds.

Thursday, March 12th

Doomtree, Busdriver & Open Mic Eagle, Transit at Slim’s

Doomtree are the most important hip hop supergroup this side of the Wu Tang Clan. Actually, dare I say it, Doomtree are BETTER than Wu Tang Clan. They also haven’t toured in years, because getting them all together is nearly impossible.

Rich Girls, Summer Cannibals, B Hamilton at Hemlock Tavern

Friday, March 13th

Matt Clark performs Miles Davis’ Miles Smiles at SFJazz Center

Renowned Pianist Matt Clark is taking on one of the most innovative records of the Bop movement of the 1960’s. It’s going to be a challenge, but this is going to be one mighty impressive night if he pulls if off. (I think he will)

Richard Cheese & Lounge Against The Machine, Uke Hunt at Bimbo’s 365 Club

Saturday, March 14th

Juliana Hatfield Three at City Winery – Napa

Become What You Are is a record that means a great deal to me, personally. It’s an amazing piece of honesty from one of the finest songwriters to come out of the fertile 90’s New England singer-songwriter scene. This show will be that record performed from beginning to end. It’s going to be great.

Go Betty Go, The Phenomenauts, Thee Merry Widows at Bottom Of The Hill

Sunday, March 15th

The Juliana Hatfield Three at The Chapel

Yup. They are playing in SF, too. You should go to both.

Monday, March 16th

Kirstin Hersh, Leslie Medelson at City Winery – Napa

What? Kirstin Hersh and Juliana Hatfield are in town AT THE SAME TIME?!?! WHERE IS TANYA DONELLY?

RX Bandits, EV Kain =V<, Horders at Bottom Of The Hill

Tuesday, March 17th

Trash Talk, Ratking, Lee Bannon at The Independent

Sometimes, you just need to go to a show where things are a little messy and a little dangerous.

Tweedy, Eleanor Freidberger at The Fillmore

Wednesday, March 18th

Kirsten Hersh at The Chapel

It’s nice to have the option of seeing the same artist at two distinctly different, yet lovely venues in the same week.
