about the Internet. Between the two, that makes this the cutest show
ever. And there’s two bonus bands, too, who must be cute to be on this

Why is it that all of the great soul singers to appear in the last decade have been from the UK? What is it about that place that breeds interesting & unique singers, while all of the Americans seem to be a bit boring? They also tend to be the best live performers, and this double bill will not be an exception.

Thao With The Get Down Stay Down, The Thermals, Grass Widow at Great American Music Hall, 9 PM
If you caught last year’s Treasure Island festival, you would be going to this show. Thao does spunky, danceable indie rock that makes for a great rock show. Have fun and drink plenty of water, because you are going to sweat.

Rhett Miller and The Serial Lady Killers, Leslie and The Badgers at The Independent, 9 PM
This guy is really good. He writes amazing hooks, and has this wicked way of strumming his guitar where he’s creates the illusion of being double jointed in the elbow. There will be a touch of Old 97’s material at this show, too.

Nouvelle Vague, Findley Brown at The Regency Ballroom, 8 PM
Nouvelle Vague do bossa nova & French pop versions of classic new wave and punk rock. They shouldn’t be very good, and probably shouldn’t have had as long a career as they have. The concept is terrible, but the execution is amazing.
Warning: A lot of places are closed today. I don’t know why… I think it has something to do with chili…
Monday, February 8th
St Vincent, Wildbirds & Peacedrums at Great American Music Hall, 8 PM
This former member of Polyphonic Spree has managed to make quite a claim as a solo artist. Her songs are heartfelt and funny, and her arrangements are unique and quirky, but accessible enough to please the masses as well.

The Dave Rawlings Machine at The Fillmore, 8 PM
The man that is always playing second fiddle to the great Gillian Welch is coming to town to see if he can strike it as a frontman. His amazing record, A Friend Of A Friend, has proved it, but just for a safe measure, he is bringing Ms. Welch along as his back up singer.
