July Fourth, 2016! Wooooo! Yeah! Our country is still here! Let’s celebrate!

If you’d like to add to your celebrations this week in The Bay Area with a concert, I’ll tell you what we’ve got coming up: caricatures, drugs, dogs, and culture that you don’t have to pay for.

So, let’s preview. Time to preview. It’s time to preview now and now here are the previews.

• Monday, July 4, 2016

Foreigner at the Marin County Fair, San Rafael

Behold before your very eyes and ears the unyielding spectacle of the powers of The Foreigner Belt wielded for sake of the greater good in the middle of an artificial lake. Later there will be fireworks. America.

• Tuesday, July 5, 2016

Lyle Lovett And His Large Band at Mountain Winery, Saratoga

If Lyle Lovett had an X-Men-styled mutant power, it would be an unusual level of calm.

• Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Dead Hero (Bogota, Columbia), The Night (Portland), Final (Bogota, Columbia) at El Rio, San Francisco

Shout-along female-fronted punk rock from Columbia for your mid-week in The Mission.

• Thursday, July 7, 2016

Rascal Flatts, Kelsea Ballerini, Chris Lane at Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View

Music for the non-discerning – which is an unkind thing to say about the music of Rascal Flatts, since their product clearly has a very high level of craftsmanship behind it.

M. Ward, Nice As Fuck at The UC Theater, Berkeley

Dakin says:

Nice As Fuck have been around for less than three months. In that short period, they basically rewrote indie rock as we know it. This twenty-five minute long record is an upbeat dance album created with only three elements – bass, drums, and voice. Everything is organic, bursting with the passion of a band that has something to say, and didn’t want to waste anytime doing it. It doesn’t hurt that the band is made up of Jenny Lewis, Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Forster and The Like’s Tennessee Thomas.

Neo-folk’s reigning guitar hero M. Ward is no stranger to getting eclipsed by a powerhouse on stage with him, and tonight’s show at The UC Theater is going to be no different.

Quaaludes, Alice Bag, Midnite Snaxxx at El Rio, San Francisco

Dakin says:

Quaaludes are an amazing local band that are keeping the noisy, messy sound of classic SF punk alive. However, it’s that middle act on the line-up that should force you to drag yourself to the outer Mission on a Saturday night. Alice Bag has been a significant force for nearly 40 years, starting out in LA’s The Bags, getting featured prominently in the great film Decline Of Western Civilization. She’s kept active, working as an author and an advocate for human rights. She’s just released her first ever solo record, and it’s more great no wave, dancey, cerebral punk goodness.

Pitbull, Prince Royce at Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View

We may laugh now, but he’s going to be remembered and it’s going to be difficult to explain in the future what is so obvious now.

• Sunday, July 10, 2016

San Francisco Symphony at Stern Grove, 19th Avenue & Sloat Blvd., San Francisco

Bring sunscreen, brave the crowds, have some music under the trees. America!
