The Happy Hollows, Deep Dimension, Kitten Grenade at Bottom Of The Hill

I hate to admit it, but LA has some really good stuff happening right now. Not many people up here know The Happy Hollows yet, but that is going to change soon. They do an updated version of the Siouxsie & The Banshees sound: a nice mix of bright and dark that’s perfectly danceable, and all colored by the unique vocal styling of Sarah Negahdari.

Morbid Angel, Rude, Blasphemous Creation at Slim’s

Friday, November 29th

Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag, Masked Intruder, Get Dead at Slim’s

Remember Ska-Punk? Remember how uncool it was to like these bands, even back in their heyday? Well, it’s still uncool, and all of these bands are still really, really good. Plus, what better way to work off your turkey weight than skanking to four bands?

Modern Life Is War, Ceremony, Wax Idols, Creative Adults at 924 Gilman St

Saturday, November 30th

Michael Buble at Oracle Arena

Michael Buble gets a bad rap. Primarily because his fan base is a little older; a little PBS. However, he is significantly more interesting than the Celtic Women or Il Divo. He is the essence of cool, and- dare I say it- might actually be up there with Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra in terms of “cool” factor.

Kacey Johansing, Sera Cahoone at The Chapel

Sunday, December 1st

Cat Power, Nico Turner at The Regency Ballroom

Cat Power has had one turbulent year, dealing with both physical and mental illness, as well as financial distress. As much as I wouldn’t want to wish her year on anyone, I’m sure it will lead to a heartfelt and intense performance. It’s been quite a few years since Chan Marshall has done a solo tour, so this is a very special event.

Suicidal Tendencies, Terror, Trash Talk, Sprung Monkey at Oakland Metro Operahouse

Monday, December 2nd

Beyonce at SAP Center in San Jose

I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Beyonce?

Tuesday, December 3rd

Cate Le Bon, Kevin Morby, Karina Denike at Rickshaw Stop

This is a pretty spectacular triple bill! Cate Le Bon is one of the best and brightest singer songwriters out there, doing an excellent brand of psych pop that will fill your ears with joy. We also have Kevin Morby of The Babys and Karina Denike of Dance Hall Crashers supporting, so there will be all sorts of joyful noise coming from Rickshaw tonight!
