Every single time I talk to a member of the Habibi camp, I gently remind them that I’m still waiting for their self-titled debut to get re-released on vinyl. And I give them a good amount of space on this site, so those conversations have been pretty frequent. Well, their manager has hinted that this was in the works for the last few years without saying it. So, now that it’s true!!! Even better, it’s been taken off the roster of the now-defunct Burger Records label and picked up by the polar opposite label: KILL ROCK STARS! (My favorite record label.)
This record is a magical piece of garage rock meets 60’s girl group meets the ultimate living room dance party. Seriously, this thing is amazing and fun and is coming back to your turntable with another long-lost piece of their history- the psych EP Cardamom Garden, which is almost entirely sung in Farsi. Preorders for this package can be found here!
Kill Rock Stars has also gotten the rights to Spinning Platters’ #3 record of 2020, Anywhere But Here. Six years in the making sounds like a band that has matured as musicians and songwriters. A full-on psych masterpiece that was PERFECT for coping with the fuckery of 2020. And, in a fascinating turn of events, KRS is putting this out on CD for the first time. Yes! It was released on LP and cassette, but not CD. And they are throwing in the Nice Try ep as a physical release for the first time, featuring covers of songs by The Savages, Liliput, Delta 5, and Quix*o*tic. Preorder that here! Or save $6 and grab them both at once here!
