OUTSIDE LANDS DROPPED IT’S AMAZING 2025 LINE UP

I walked out the door this morning to experience the sun on my face for the first time in what feels like years. This last winter was one of the coldest, dreariest ones in memory. I enjoyed a gentle breeze while serotonin made its first real return to my brain in a while. Then I opened up my phone (a thing that has brought the opposite of joy lately) to see Outside Lands drop its lineup, and now I’ve moved from joyful to glowing! 

Highlights include a triple shot of the best live acts in modern hip hop: Tyler, The Creator, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, and Doechii,  the unclassifiable Doja Cat, the insane bass stylings of Thundercat, the inventive and brilliant Jorja Smith, and for those looking for a touch of proper nostalgia, there’s Ludacris! Lower on the bill and there are some insane Easter Eggs like Big Freedia & The SF Gay Men’s Chorus, whatever “Vampire Weekend ?? /? ” means, the reinvented Rebecca Black, and for those who need a little mosh in their weekend, Oakland’s Destroy Boys are playing as well as the amazing Mannequin Pussy.

OUTSIDE LANDS EAGER BEAVER TICKETS ON SALE TOMORROW AT 10AM

Once the big festivals start announcing their line ups, I get excited about Outside Lands finally dropping their lineup. Always a little bit more interesting than the rest in the US, and I’ve never had a bad time in the 17 years I’ve been heading to the Golden Gate Park for this shindig. We still have to wait a little longer to learn about the music. The Eager Beaver tickets are always the cheapest way to get in and are on sale tomorrow. Out-the-door (fees included!) prices are Eager Beaver 3-Day GA tickets are $485.05 all in ($425 + $65.05 fees), 3-Day GA+ tickets are $734.55 all in ($665 + $69.55 fees) and 3-Day VIP tickets are $1,045.55 all in ($965 + $80.55 fees) and, for those with deep pockets and enjoy some fancy times, $5,095.55 all in ($4,895 + $200.55 fees) for Golden Gate Club tickets. For that price, you get front-of-stage viewing, access to the golf cart fleet for speedy transit around the site, and food & drinks provided by celebrity chefs Melissa King, Tyler Florence of Miller & Lux, and Dana Younkin & Nancy Oakes of Boulevard!

OUTSIDE LANDS NIGHT SHOWS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED

Oh, man. It feels like 2024 is just flying by, and Outside Lands will be here before you know it. I know many of you are still trying to reconcile the fact that Tyler, The Creator, won’t be returning this year. However, who wouldn’t want to experience the literal song of the Summer in a giant field in the middle of Summer? In the meantime, Outside Lands have announced their Night Shows, which means it’s coming up soon. 

And, well, things are looking pretty epic. Sturgill Simpson at The Independent?!?! Romy of The xx at 1015 Folsom?!?!?! And Corinne Bailey Rae bringing her Black Rainbows show to Bimbo’s will be magic. Outside Lands ticket holders get the first crack at tickets on 6/27 at 10 am. OUTSIDE LANDS SINGLE DAY LINEUPS!!!

FINALLY! Single-day breakdowns are up for you all to get anxious about conflicts. Like, am I really going to have to pick between Tyler, The Creator and The Postal Service? This whole thing looks amazing, once again, and it’s really a nice, even spread of acts all three days. On top of this, they’ve also added a Latin music stage called CASA BACARDI, featuring B-Side Brujas, Chulita Vinyl Club, and MUCH MORE!

OUTSIDE LANDS 2024 LINE UP DROP!!!!

My initial “hot take” on the Outside Lands 2024 lineup? It’s by far and away the most interesting and diverse of the 2024 “big fests.” First, the top line… Not only do we have Tyler, The Creator, one of the most intriguing acts in all of hip hop, as well as modern New Wave hitmakers, The Killers, we’ve got Sturgill Simpson, a leader of the modern Outlaw Country movement, and an all-around unexpected twist. He also hasn’t done a headlining tour since the plague broke out! Below him? Well, an All-Country set from Post Malone, a very rare performance by the legendary Grace Jones, and the folks behind SubPop’s selling record, The Postal Service. What else am I excited about? Well, there’s the Regina George herself, Renee Rapp. Shoegaze innovators Slowdive. Killer Mike. Tyla, of course, will help us remember to hydrate. Punkers Men I Trust will be there despite the fact that there aren’t any. Australian punks Amyl & The Sniffers for a little danger element. SP favorites K. Flay and Corinne Bailey Rae are both hot off the best records of their storied careers. And for those who need some UK Twee with a side of UK goth, there’s The Last Dinner Party. And, most importantly, if you need someone to throw your underwear at, Idris Elba is, indeed, DJ’ing the SOMA Stage, which has been moved outside because, for those who went last year, we really did blow the roof off the sucker.

OUTSIDE LANDS 2023 NIGHT SHOWS ANNOUNCED!

As we dig deeper into Summer, it’s time for Outside Lands to start trickling out their “bonus content.” First off- the night shows! (Still to come- the Gastromagic Stage and Grass Lands lineups, and then we start our petition to bring back The Barbary!) Highlights (for me at least) include No Vacation (with Sour Widows) at the California Academy Of Sciences (!) on August 10th, L’Impératrice at Bimbo’s on August 11th, and an epic double bill of Soccer Mommy and SASAMI at The Independent on August 12th. So, yeah, it might be worth leaving Foo Fighters a hair early to ensure you get to The Indy by 10 pm, because you REALLY don’t want to miss SASAMI. 

Eager Beaver & Golden Gate Club ticket holders have the first opportunity to grab tickets with those presales running Wednesday, 6/21, from 10 am PT to Thursday, 6/22, at 11:59 pm PT. Outside Lands Daily Lineups HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED!

August seems so much closer in the last week than it has been… It might be the fact that our three months of ACTUAL WINTER have finally drifted away, and the sun has revealed itself. Although if you are a real San Franciscan, you are most excited about Karl The Fog returning in August, which makes Outside Lands consistently the most comfortable music festival in America. 

But I digress… Single Day lineups have been announced, so you can kinda start planning? It looks pretty likely that we are gonna get Janelle Monae warming up the crowd for Kendrick Lamar, which is basically gonna cause my brain to implode. We also see Orville Peck and Trixie Mattel playing on the same day, so keep your fingers crossed that this happens! Will they try to find a way to combine Fake Fruit and Venus & The Flytraps for the most uncomfortable concoction for Gastromagic on Sunday? I certainly hope soo…

OUTSIDE LANDS 2023 LINE UP ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Christmas came really early this year! We’ve got the full lineup for Outside Lands 2023 six whole weeks earlier than last year!!!! And they did very well, as usual. Topping the bill is Kendrick Lamar, making his first trip to the bay since the amazing Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers came out, as well as the first Foo Fighters set since the passing of Taylor Hawkins and ODESZA, making them the first electronic act to close out Lands End. Other Spinning Platters favorites include Megan Thee Stallion (Yes. This is the act I’m most excited to see), Janelle Monae, The 1975, Maggie Rogers, Lil Yachty, Interpol, Father John Misty, Orville Peck, ALVVAYS, beabadoobee, Soccer Mommy, Shaquille O’Neal (!), and my favorite current Bay Area band, Fake Fruit! 

I’ve already started studying for our annual “Top 10 from the bottom half” of the poster, but don’t miss your shot to buy tickets! 3 DAY GA, GA+, VIP, and Golden Gate Club tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10am.

Outside Lands 15th Anniversary Eager Beaver Tickets On Sale 3.1.23 at 10am

I’m looking outside, watching the rain drench my block as my thermometer shows temperatures at depths that the Bay Area has never seen in my life. I’m eagerly awaiting Summer. To leave the house in a short sleeve shirt. To feel the sun on my skin outdoors (sunscreened, of course!), melting into the lawn while enjoying some live music. 

Our good friends at Outside Lands are well aware of our desperation, and they are giving us an opportunity to get excited about the sunny months by unleashing Eager Beager tickets for the 15th Anniversary of Outside Lands, Aug 11-13th. Single Of The Week: “Shower With My Clothes On” by Ashe

We are exactly one week out from Outside Lands, and the schedule is LIVE! I noticed that I had a gap on Friday late afternoon, and I stumbled across this gem of a track. I’ve listened to “Shower With My Clothes On” like ten times today. The gentle acoustic guitar strum over Ashe’s heartbreak vocals builds up gently, with banjos and horns building up in a smooth wash of joy. This track feels like a cross between Morcheeba and Sea Change-era Beck and is glorious. 

Ashe is playing the Twin Peaks stage at 3:45 on Friday (a week from today!) at Outside Lands. “Shower With My Clothes On” is the 4th single off her upcoming release, RAE, coming your way on October 14th! You can prepare for its arrival in whatever way you prefer here!
