Here’s another fun week of fun stuff to fill with funness. Happy funny funtimes!!
Thursday, September 9th
Apocalyptica, Dir En Grey, Evaline at The Regency Ballroom
Apocalyptica first came on the scene as a cello tribute to Metallica, and the although it was an interesting idea, not one that would really make a career. So, after experimenting with a few other popular metal bands, they decided to start composing their own material, and that’s where they got good. Imagine, if you would, if the Kronos Quartet spent a year only listening to grindcore, and then came back to create a whole new sound. That sound is Apocalyptica. Also playing is Dir En Grey, the Japan’s finest experimental metal export.
Brilliant Colors, Milk Music, White Boss at Hemlock Tavern
Dreamy, reverb heavy, lady-led punk rock from this very area! Brilliant Colors are one of my favorite local bands, and they will be yours one day, too!
Friday, September 10th
Helmet, Bison BC, Disastroid at Uptown Nightclub
I saw Helmet once, while I was in high school. I’d never heard them before. I thought that they were pretty good. I still do. They still make me feel like a 15 year old that really likes friendly, dancey mosh.
The BellRays at The New Parish
Haven’t been to The New Parish, yet? If you hurry, you can get tickets for only $2.08! The band is pretty good, too!
Saturday, September 11th
Southern Culture On The Skids, Aloha Screwdriver at Great American Music Hall
Some bands will always exist. Like Southern Culture On The Skids… Their infectious blend of country western, punk rock, and pure shtick is infectious and fun. This will be an excellent show to blow of few bucks on cheap beer and blow at!
They even do weddings:
Michael Franti + Spearhead, Rebelution, Crystal Bowersox, Rupa & The April Fishes, Sambada and more at Golden Gate Park – Speedway Meadows (Power To The Peaceful)
I’ve been to almost every one of these. It’s a smashing good time. Where sunscreen & bring a sweater!
Sunday, September 12th
Scissors Sisters, Sammy Jo, Casey Spooner at The Fox Theater – Oakland
Remember when the Scissor Sisters were going to take over the world? Well, it never happened, but they still are one of the greatest live acts in pop music. Go see this show!
Shonen Knife, Kepi Ghoulie, Bam Bam at Uptown Nightclub
Monday, September 13th
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Le Butcherettes at Great American Music Hall
Instrumental, Latin rock infused experimental prog catharsis. That what you will get with this show. If you think that sounds bad, then you will hate this. If you are awesome like I am, you will think that this is the best show ever.
The Tallest Man On Earth, S.Carey at The Fillmore
Tuesday, September 14th
Menenoma, Suckers, Tu Fawning at Great American Music Hall (Also 9/15)
Eilen Jewell, The Shants at Cafe du Nord
Wednesday, September 15th
Marina & The Diamonds, Young The Giant at The Independent
Plenty of SP’ers will be at this show… Will you?
The Head Cat, Red Meat, The Badmen at Uptown Nightclub
Lemmy at the super tiny Uptown Nightclub in Oakland? Doing rockabilly music? Holy mother of whiskey!
The Chapin Sister, Rachel Efron at Cafe du Nord
Shonen Knife, Kepi Ghoulie, Bam Bam at Uptown Nightclub on Sept 11th, and at Bottom of the Hill on Sept 12th.
