Modest Mouse, Mimicking Birds at Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium
The beautifully restored Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium has been presenting some great shows. Tonight brings us Modest Mouse, a band that seems to be taking it’s dear sweet time to grant us a follow up to 2007’s We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. Tonight’s show is in support of a series of re-issues from Modest Mouse’s pre-major label era, so we can expect a lot of classic material, and hopefully some new stuff, too. Opening is Mimicking Birds, a band whose glorious psych beauty will pleasantly warm up your ears this evening.

Oakland Music Festival in Uptown Oakland
Oakland Music Festival is the little festival that could. Last year’s event was marred by the most epic rain storm Oakland has seen in years, and they managed to still pull it off with finesse. Today we’ve got performances by the newly reunited Lovemakers, Dom Kennedy, SZA, J-Boogie and many, many more. So let’s support local music and enjoy this day in the sun, because it will be sunny this year.

The Aislers Set, Cold Beat, The Mantles at The Chapel
For those of you that remember San Francisco in the early aughts, you definitely ended up at a set by The Aislers Set. They were an amazing band that blended twee with punk, often calling out Belle & Sebastian and The Misfits in the same song. This is their first bay area show in almost a decade, and I highly recommend coming out and dancing at this show.

The Pixies, Royal Blood at Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium
One of the most important bands in history of rock has officially been reunited for longer than they were initially together. This year kicks of the second decade of The Pixies as a functioning unit, and they are finally playing new material. Royal Blood are opening, and they are about to become the biggest band around, so you’ve got a true double feature at The Masonic tonight.

Living Colour, Lee Gallagher and The Hallelujah at The Independent
Living Colour are a legendary hard rock band. Not only did they rise above the racial divide of 80’s hard rock, they also managed to be better than all of the cheeseball hair bands of the era. They’ve also managed to continue to put out interesting and innovative material long after their time period has ended.
