Coming to The New Parish
Coming to The New Parish

We live in a lovely place…. There is always too much to do.

Thursday, September 19th

The Jill and Julia Show, Heather Combs at Swedish American Hall

The Jill and Julia Show debuted a few years ago and Sketchfest. It’s an unexpected pairing, however they work out well together. Jill Sobule plays songs while former SNL cast member Julia Sweeney (It’s Pat!) tells stories and jokes. You will laugh, cry, and it might feel like the 90’s never ended!

Todd Barry, Blaine Kapatch, Sean Keane at The Chapel

Friday, September 20th

Dave Chappelle, Flight Of The Conchords, Jeff Ross, Hannibal Buress, Kristen Schaal, Al Madrigal, Jim Jeffries at Shoreline Amphitheater

We all heard about the infamous New Haven, CT performance on this tour. Well, ever since Dave Chappelle made it past that travesty of a show, he’s been on fire! Each show has gotten better and better, and with this one being nearly the end of the tour, in one of his favorite places in the world. it’s going to be an amazing set.

White Trash Debutantes, Rubber City Rebels, Jack Killed Jill at John Patrick’s

Saturday, September 21st

Oakland Music Festival at 18th and San Pablo

What?!?! You didn’t know about the inaugural Oakland Music Festival?!? This killer afternoon in the sun featuring some of the best names in local Funk, Hip Hop, Indie Rock, and EDM. Plus, since it’s Oakland, it also means the food will be spectacular, and everyone knows Oakland crowds are way more fun than SF crowds. So come check out The Coup, Dam-Funk, Religious Girls, Kev Choice, Bang Data, and many, many more. I’ll be there, too! Some come by and say hello!

Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco at America’s Cup Pavilion

I really love both of these bands. If you no longer trust my judgement in musical taste, I get it.

Blouse, Social Studies, Feathers at Bottom Of The Hill

It’s possible to do all three of these shows in one night. I think I’m going to do it.

Sunday, September 22nd

Jimmy Eat World, Matt Pond at The Warfield

Remember emo? The blend of emotional charged pop punk that you could cry to, cuddle to, or mosh to? Well, it’s alive and well, and Jimmy Eat World are still the best of them. They still sound amazing, and are one of the best live acts in any genre of music.

Dirty Beaches, SISU, Chasms at Bottom Of The Hill

Monday, September 23rd

The Living Jarboe, Faun Fables, Amber Asylum at Cafe du Nord

Yes, Jarboe, the feminine counter point to the booming voice of Michael Jira in the experimental rock band Swans, is playing a rare show in the very intimate confines of Cafe du Nord. The main reason to go to this show is so you can finally make your ears happy about life again.

The Vaccines, Chain Gang of 1974, Bad Suns at The Regency Ballroom

Tuesday, September 24th

Little Boots, MNDR at The Independent

Little Boots, aka Victoria Hesketh is a genius of an artist. She is a one woman disco machine that produces her own tracks and does the most interesting music in this scene since Donna Summer.

Islands, Bear Mountain at The Chapel

Wednesday, September 25th

Joan of Arc, Twin Steps, Our Brother The Native at The New Parish

Chicago post rock veterans haven’t been to the bay area in ages, and I’m glad they opted to come visit us in Oakland. Who needs San Francisco, anyways?

The Lumineers, Dr Dog, Nathaniel Ratcliff at America’s Cup Pavilion
