In order to warm up for Outside Lands, here is a list of many lengthy, multi-band shows this week that also are awesome.
Thursday, August 4th
Tornado Rider, Judgement Day, The Phenomenauts at Great American Music Hall
Remember back in high school when the punkers and the metal kids feuded? Well, what is those people instead picked up classical string instruments, started separate bands, realized how much they actually had in common, and then went on tour together. It would be kind of like this, plus local avant popsters The Pheneomenauts opening the whole show!
Exhumed, Macabre, Cephalic Carnage, Withered at Slim’s
Friday, August 5th
KMFDM, Army Of The Universe, 16 Volt, Human Factors Lab at The Regency Ballroom
The band that once described themselves as “what would happen if Germans had a sense of humor” are stretching out their reunion as long as they can go. They are bringing their gothy, yet silly roadshow back to to town. So, go fondle the beejeebers out of those horses. Ironically.
Mr Big at The Fillmore
Saturday, August 6th
All Shook Down Music Festival Featuring Crystal Castles at The Regency Ballroom
Last year, this event took over North Beach, featuring some of the best local talent, and headlined by the great Janelle Monae. The opted to refocus the event this year, and made it a single venue show, still focusing on some of the most gifted bands in the by such as Mistah FAB, maus haus, Con Brio, Battlehooch, and more, and closing up with a performance Crystal Castles. Come get a sample the best of the bay area!
Jhameel, Giggle Party, Double Dutchess, Music Wrong at Sub-Mission Gallery
Sunday, August 7th
Bowling For Soup, The Dollyrots, Sunderland at Bottom Of The Hill
The biggest set back of their career may have been the fact that Bowling For Soup appeared so soon after New Found Glory broke out… Of course, NFG found continued fame by virtue of their lead singer dating Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams. Bowling For Soup, on the other hand, aren’t playing arenas opening for their girlfriend’s band. They keep chugging away playing small places and keeping the pop punk dream alive for their devoted fan base. Providing support is one of my favorite power pop bands out there, Florida’s best band this side of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: The Dollyrots!!!

Monday, August 8th
Stay home. Talk to your pets. Learn how to knit. Bring a Mariachi band to an aquarium.
Tuesday, August 9th
Imelda May, Dustin Chance and The All-Nighters at The Independent
The young Irish woman has managed to draw up the soul of classic rockabilly. She is full of fire and sex appeal, and brings to mind Wanda Jackson from her heyday, back when she was dating Elvis, not getting over produced by Jack White.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Presents “How Big Can You Get: 100 Years Of Cab Calloway” at Yoshi’s – SF
Wednesday, August 10th
Gin Blossoms at Yoshi’s – SF
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Gin Blossoms back to back? It’s a 90’s Flashback at Yoshi’s SF!!!!
