Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 6/7/12-6/13/12

At Bottom Of The Hill on Wednesday.

I like all the different people
I like sticky everywhere
Look around, you bet I’ll be there!
Hot metal in the sun
Pony in the air
Sooey and saints at the fair

Saints alive you’re saying
Walk in … squares
The hid are out, out for the year
It’s a lot of face
A lot of crank air
Eroding around here

Summer’s ready
Summer is ready when you are

Sorry, The Breeders aren’t playing…

Thursday, June 7th

Idina Menzel at Davies Symphony Hall

Not going to lie… I wasn’t a fan of RENT.  Of course, Idina Menzel might the best thing to come from this show. A brilliant voice, excellent stage presence, and she’s just a little bit edgier than many of her peers.

The Human Condition, Betsy & Beau, The Quiet Men at Bottom Of The Hill

Friday, June 8th

A Place To Bury Strangers, This Will Destroy You, Dusted at Bottom Of The Hill

A Place To Bury Strangers are the heavy, much more dangerous cousin of Interpol. The still have the moody, Joy Division influenced sound, only crank up the guitars much louder, turning into a sweaty, ecstatic dance party.

Tornado Rider, Battlehooch, Kill Moi, Sporting Life at Great American Music Hall

LMFAO, Far East Movement, Natalia Kills at Oracle Arena

Not gonna lie… I sort of want to go to this:

Saturday, June 9th

Christopher Cross at Yoshi’s – SF

The king of the yacht rock ballad hasn’t toured in ages, which is exciting to everyone that grew up watching Growing Pains, believing that true love is always followed by Swpt Away by Christopher Cross.

TSOL, The Forgotten at Blank Club

The Untouchables, Undercover S.K.A. at Red Devil Lounge

Sunday, June 10th

Still Flyin’, Tambo Rays, Trails and Ways at Rickshaw Stop

This collective of local musicians keeps evolving their sound, and every release keeps getting better and better.

Monday, June 11th

Lil Kim at Mezzanine

Because, well, it’s Lil Kim!!! Did you think you’d ever get to see her live? Especially in such a tiny space?

Tuesday, June 12th

Thrice, Animals as Leaders, O’Brother at The Regency Ballroom

These legends of “post hardcore” are saying that this is their last tour. So, if you ever wanna see these guys, you really need to do it now.

Rhapsody Of Fire, Voyager at Slim’s

Wednesday, June 13th

UMe, The Life and Times, Kitten at Bottom Of The Hill

Yes, there are three bands on this bill. And those last two are pretty good. But Kitten? This teenage post punk band that aren’t headlining simply because of labor laws? They are one of the craziest, most energetic live bands you will ever encounter. The band’s energy is simply unparalleled. They would be one of my favorite bands, even if their songs weren’t fantastic…
