Thursday, June 25th
Floetry, Janine & The Mix Tape at The Regency Ballroom
Floetry were a ground breaking group from the 00’s, doing some fairly edgy and provocative soul fused poetry. It’s been a number of years since we last had the opportunity to see this group play live, so missing this show would be a pretty grievous error.
Friday, June 26th
The Bar-Kays at Yoshi’s – Jack London Square
The Bar-Kays may not have been a household name. However, they are pretty pivotal in the over all history of rock n roll, as they were the house session band for the legendary Stax record label in the 60’s and 70’s. These guys recorded with legends like Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes, and Yoshi’s is WAY too small a place to go see them.
The Cockney Rejects, Angry Samoans, Battalion Of Saints, Isotope, 13 Scars, Jack Killed Jill at The Metro, Oakland
This show features many flavors of old, old punk rock still on the road and still on stage. Headlining are The Cockney Rejects, who basically invented what became known as Oi! punk. If you’re a West Ham supporter, you’ll want to be at this show. (CMR)
Geto Boys at the New Parish, Oakland
“Mind Playing Tricks on Me” is one of the most paranoid songs ever written. The Geto Boys‘ songs have an intrinsic sadness and a terrible inertia. Slow-paced carefully-mannered Houston rap that sounds as though it’s walking into its own grave. (CMR)
Ed Sheeran, Rixton at The Greek Theater – UC Berkeley
Saturday, June 27th
Bell Biv Devoe, Doug E Fresh at Mountain Winery
Sure, this is a nostalgia show. However, there are few things more fun than singing and dancing along to all of your favorite songs from Junior High. Plus, remember that one should never trust a big butt and a smile.
Sunday, June 28th
ESG, Extra Action Marching Band, Hard French DJ’s at Mezzanine
ESG are a band that never got the respect they deserved. They bridged together disco, punk, prog, funk, and no wave in a unique and exciting way. Happily, they are still going strong after 30+ years in the business. They are headlining Hard French’s Pride Party! This is a day time show, so DON’T show up late!
Slayer, King Diamond, Hellyeah, The Devil Wears Prada, Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Jungle Rot, Sister Sin, Sworn In, Shattered Sun, Feed Her To The Sharks, Code Orange, Kissing Candice at Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View (Mayhem Festival)
Kelly Clarkson, Mat Kearny, Elle King, Rachel Platten at Golden Gate Park
Tuesday, June 30th
Television, Phoebe Bridgers at The Fillmore
Tom Verlaine is a guitar hero. And he rarely plays live. Lord knows how much time he has left to blow our minds, either. So, yeah, go see Television.
Wednesday, July 1st
CCR Headcleaner, bAd bAd, Ubu Roi at Hemlock Tavern
Because it’s been proven that heavy and fast is good for you.
Ginuwine, Blackstreet, Tank, SWV at Mountain Winery
