I know a lot of you are sad that you didn’t win tickets to the Converse Represent shows at Slim’s. Fear not, as there is plenty of excellent rock to go with your roll this week! (Or you can follow them on twitter for another shot at winning)

Indian Jewelry, CCR Headcleaner, Sleeping Desire at Eagle Tavern
Indian Jewelry are a tough band to get into. They aren’t exactly a pop group. In fact, their sonic experimentations are so far outside of what most people consider to be “music” that most people’s responses can range from anger to pleasure to nausea to joy and anywhere in between. This show isn’t for everybody, but if you open you go in with an open mind, it may explode. Also, CCR Headcleaner is a great name for a band.
Scary Little Friends, TV Mike & The Scarecrows, Indianna Hale at Amnesia
Friday, June 21st
Gin Blossoms at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Sometimes it’s worth a long drive to enjoy something for free. Especially when it’s an opportunity to see the great Gin Blossoms, one of the finest products of the power pop resurgence in the 90’s. Besides, it’s gonna be a fine day to head out to the beach!
Stripmall Architecture, Books On Fate, Return To Mono at DNA Lounge
Steve Miller Band, The Doobie Brothers at America’s Cup Pavilion
As if we need further reminder(s) that the hippies lost. (Christopher Rogers)
Saturday, June 22nd
She & Him, Emmylou Harris, Tilly & The Wall at The Greek Theater – UC Berkeley
She & Him are a band people love to hate. Of course, there is a faction of the world that will never listen to them due to the fact that they can’t handle how “precious” Zooey Deschanel is. Those people need to get over themselves, because She & Him are fantastic. Deschanel has an amazing and unique voice, as well as a gift for writing infectious, timeless melodies. M Ward is a folk singer in his day job, but takes on the role of guitar hero quite nicely in his evening gig. Also, the support on this show is ridiculous!! The legendary Emmylou Harris and tap dancing disco folk rockers Tilly & The Wall! This is a well rounded evening that is sure to be the most fun you can have under the stars.

Battlehooch, Major Powers & The Lo Fi Orchestra, Hungry Skinny at Slim’s

Posole, Hot Flash Heat Wave, The Pocket Rockets, Spooky Flowers at The Night Light
The Night Light is one of the coolest bars in Oakland. Posole are one of the coolest latin surf rock bands you’ll every come across.
Air Review, Vela Eyes at Neck Of The Woods
Air Review sound like a cross between The Flaming Lips and Death Cab for Cutie soundtracking an indie movie. It’s also only $5 and in a brand new venue in the Richmond district of SF. You have no more excuses. (Quotes from Gordon Elgart were borrowed for this blurb)
Tuesday, June 25th
Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five, Boothby Graffoe at Mountain Winery
Some of you only know Barenaked Ladies as the “One Week” band. However, they are so much better than that. They are one of the most entertaining live bands around. The problem? Ben Folds Five might actually be a better live band.
Big Business, Pins Of Light at Bottom Of The Hill
Huge semi-atonal bellows from a heavy two-some that has worked closely with The Melvins. Clomping, stomping, galumphing hard rock sounds recorded deep inside a dank wooden barrel somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. This is the sound of a reasonably funny natural catastrophe that doesn’t really get anyone hurt. Songs about general revenge, ironic perception, and nothing less than the motherfucking sun rising above the motherfucking horizon. (Christopher Rogers)
Geoff Rickly, Vinnie Caruana, Picture Atlantic, Owl Paws at Thee Parkside
Wednesday, June 26th
Ginuwine, Tyrese, Tank at The Paramount Theater – Oakland
Between New Jack Swing and Neo Soul, there was a brief era of R&B that has been long lost. It was more grown up than New Jack Swing, without the retro trappings of neo soul. It’s what birthed Ginuwine, Tyrese, and Tank, and the three of them are playing the classiest joint in the East Bay. So ride your pony to the Paramount for some sexy, sexy fun.
