Warren G at Yoshi’s – Oakland
I was told that the easiest way to gauge whether an artist is a “one hit wonder” is to go to Spotify and check the play count difference between the #1 and #2 song, and if one is 10x the other, then the artist is a one hit wonder. Sadly, Warren G does qualify under those rules. It’s a shame, because he is one of the finest MC’s to come out of the LA scene in the 90’s.
Rodrigo Amarante, Jenny O at Hotel Utah
Friday, June 20th
Matt Nathanson, Gavin DeGraw, Mary Lambert at The Greek Theater – UC Berkeley
Doesn’t it feel a bit like cheating that USF Alumni Matt Nathanson is playing a theater on campus at UC Berkeley? It seems wrong, despite this being a beautiful and nearly acoustically perfect outdoor theater. OK, I understand why he dropped is allegiance. So, three of the greatest contemporary singer/songwriters in a beautiful place. Seems like a good Friday night.
Guantanamo Baywatch, Courtney & The Crushers, Bicycle Day at Hemlock Tavern
Saturday, June 21st
Uh Huh Her, El Elle at The New Parish
Uh Huh Her were one of my favorite bands to come out of the electroclash scene of the 00’s. Opening is El Elle, a side project of Oakland electroclash hitmakers The Lovemakers. Together, on a Saturday night, we have the recipe for a fun filled dance party!
World Party, Gabriel Kelley at Great American Music Hall
Sunday, June 22nd
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Bourbon Kings Brass Band at Miner Auditorium
Chicago’s finest New Orleans’ Brass Band is making a very rare trip to San Francisco. This group has worked with everyone from Damon Albarn to Wu-Tang Clan and everywhere in between. This will be a most epic dance party, and Miner Auditorium is a room that was specifically designed with music in mind, so everything will be perfection.
Allah-La’s, Dream Boys, Old Testament at Great American Music Hall
Monday, June 23rd
Maxwell, Shy Girls at Mountain Winery
Maxwell is consistently one of the most innovative musicians of the R&B world. Shy Girls are a group from Portland that do some of the sexiest electro soul being made today. Put these two acts in one of the most beautiful venues in the Bay Area, complete with some delicious wine, and you have a recipe for a ton of new babies being made this night.
Wednesday, June 25th
Cultura Profetica, McKlopedia, Pure Roots at The Regency Ballroom
