Thursday, May 21st

The Tallest Man On Earth, Hiss Golden Messenger at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Yes, this double bill sounds like the two main characters in a fantasy novel where they save a village from evil. Sadly, that book hasn’t been written. Instead, you get a wonderful evening with two of the most unique vocalists you will ever have the honor of listening to.

Cool Ghouls, GRMLN, Meat Market, Edwards Crossing at The Chapel

Friday, May 22nd

Ceremony, Negative Approach at 924 Gilman St

Hardcore is a tough genre to break ground in, but Ceremony managed to be a truly heavy and furious punk band that manage sound positively unique. Tonight at Gilman St, they will be debuting a slew of new material and it’s going to be wonderful and ferocious.

Babewatch, Rock N Roll Adventure Kids, Sad Tires, Unity at Stork Club

Saturday, May 23rd

Shitouttaluck, Marianne Pillsbury, Kristen Plater, with Dakin Hardwick playing records between bands at Doc’s Lab

Spinning Platters is happy to bring you another wonderful evening of rock n roll. Two excellent singer songwriters, one killer ska band, a historic venue, and yours truly playing a selection of ska, punk, garage, new wave, and anything else I feel like playing you between bands.

Sunday, May 24th

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Cameo, Keith Sweat, Zapp, Evelyn “Champagne” King at Concord Pavilion

Some festivals have a good lineup. And some festivals are entirely comprised of huge legends. This is one where every single act on the bill made a significant impact on the way we listen to music today.

Tuesday, May 27th

Will Butler, The Domestics at Great American Music Hall

Will Butler is a member of The Arcade Fire. The last record from his main band was a pretty bloated affair of overproduced music. Butler, as a solo artist, is doing something very pure, intense, and immediate.

Streetlight Manifesto, Dan Potthast, Sycamore Smith at The Regency Ballroom

Wednesday, May 28th

Diarrhea Planet, Left & Right, Sun Valley Gun Club at The Independent

Arguably either the best or worst name in rock, Diarrhea Planet at least have the most memorable name in music. However, they don’t need a catchy name to be remembered.

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Lil Dowager, Toner at 1234 Go! Records – Oakland
