So, this week is a great week if you wanna see old people sing youthful songs… We get The Dead Milkmen, Keith Morris (Circle Jerks) and Roger Waters all coming very soon. There are also a few shows happening if you like it slightly more youthful. Also this week: CREED!

The Dead Milkmen, Terry Malts at Slim’s
As a little punk rock teen, I used to listen to KZSU, Stanford’s college station, relentlessly. They always played the coolest stuff, and they played a ton of Dead Milkmen. I loved it! As soon as I found out who they were, I checked out the CD to Metaphysical Graffiti from the library, dubbed it to cassette, then brought it back. Yes, my library was cool enough to have a Dead Milkmen CD. I listened to it relentlessly. Sadly, the band had already broken up before I knew who they were. I never thought I’d get to see them, but, sure enough, they have finally made it to SF, 17 years after their last visit. And they are even playing Slim’s, which was the venue that I ended up at most often in my young punk days. So, tonight, I will chug a liter of Jolt cola and pogo my brains back into freshman year of high school.

Roger Waters does The Wall at AT&T Park
My editor, Gordon Elgart, wrote the blurb for this show. I find it hard to believe that he has never done drugs before after reading this:
When I was in high school, I was going to be a Wallologist for a living. I was going to college to major in Wallogoy. I studied the records like they were the Dead Sea Scrolls, and made exciting discoveries about life when I finally got the album on CD. I bought bootleg video from the famous Wall live shows at Nassau Colisseum and looked for more clues. I saw the movie, and debated the subtle lyrical differences. What could they all MEAN? I grew up and found out you couldn’t be a Wallologist as a career, but isn’t editing a music website the next best thing?This show will be The Wall album, and nothing else. I hope to find more clues.
This is a bit more my speed, however.
For a band called The Drums, they aren’t just a whole wall of percussion. They are, however, a classic sounding band that would’ve been britpop if there were British or from the 90’s. So, labels be damned, and remember that this band is just plain good.
As co-frontperson of Fleetwood Mac, he’s written some of the most classic songs of the pop music era. As a solo artist, he’s created some of the weirdest and most fascinating albums to ever get released on a major label. At The Fillmore tonight, expect a little Fleetwood Mac and a little weirdness, and maybe a little Fleetwood Mac done a little weird. No matter, it’s going to be bloody amazing!
Fans of Gogol Bordello and Beirut may be surprised to know that Gypsy music has existed for years, and is pretty amazing. Hot Club Of Detroit are one of the few bands that focus on the more traditional Romanian jazz that many other bands in the last few years have fused their sound with in order to make a whole new sound. This show will help you find those roots.
The Dandy Warhols are one of those bands that you’d expect would have broken up years ago in a fit of drug fueled infighting sparked by the band never reaching true rock star status. But now. They are still together, still putting out hooky, drug fueled pop songs that will always put a smile on my face no matter how hard I fight it.
