As with every April, it’s a really full week of shows. Enjoy!
Thursday, April 10th
Terry Malts, Pang, Cold Beat at Bottom Of The Hill
There are a thousand Coachella bands playing sold out shows tonight. And there is one amazing local punk show at Bottom Of The Hill that you can actually go see, and it will be way more fun than watching milk do all it can to not be a base.
Neutral Milk Hotel, Elf Power at The Fox Theater – Oakland
Just in case you didn’t get the reference in the prior capsule.
Friday, April 11th
Trombone Shorty, Fishbone at The Warfield
What an amazing and random double bill! The reigning king of New Orleans jazz, Trombone Shorty (primarily a trumpet player) is headlining, with Fishbone opening- the only band to appear on both Soul Train and Headbanger’s Ball. This will be a pretty nicely divided crowd.
High On Fire, Leacherous Gaze, Moses, Roland at The Uptown Nightclub
Saturday, April 12th
Bill Cosby at The Paramount Theatre – Oakland
It’s Bill Cosby. America’s Dad. One of the greatest living performers. This man is a legend that has spanned many generations, and, if recent late night TV appearances are any indication, he is sharper than ever. Plus- it gives you an excuse to have chocolate cake for breakfast.
Caravan Palace, Roisin Coven at The Regency Ballroom
Sunday, April 13th
Meg Baird, Marisa Anderson, Marielle V Andersson at The Night Light
Monday, April 14th
Bryan Ferry, Dawn Landes at The Fox Theater – Oakland
Bryan Ferry, as lead singer of Roxy Music, helped make art rock sexy. Bryan Ferry as a solo artist, has branched out to many sophisticated genres of music, all while keeping it, well, sexy. He’s bringing a huge band with him, and he’s armed with 30+ years of amazing songs.
The Toy Dolls, Swingin’ Utters at The Regency Ballroom
Tuesday, April 15th
The Knife at The Fox Theater – Oakland
The Knife put on one of the most spectacularly tripped out spectacles of any band around. And they NEVER tour. This is only the second time they’ve come to the US in their 15 years together, so missing this show would be a travesty.
Title Fight, Waxhatchee, Hop Along at Oakland Metro Operahouse
Wednesday, April 16th
Foxygen, Kevin Morby at The Chapel
Want an evening of glorious, blissful psychedelia in a converted church? This is the perfect show for you!
