Stop Making Sense 6

We’ve got a pretty excellent week of shows coming up. However, you really shouldn’t miss our first ever Spinning Platters film night at The New Parkway in Oakland this Friday and Saturday night at 11:55 PM. We will be screening the Stop Making Sense, which is simply the greatest rock n roll film ever. Head over to our Facebook page to win tickets! Or you can buy tickets here, because it may sell out.

Thursday, February 7th

fun., Andrew McMahon at The Fox Theater – Oakland

fun.’s blend of power pop sincerity and Broadway bombast was too good to stay a secret for long. Yes, I’d love to keep seeing them at Bottom Of The Hill, I need to let them go. They are no longer my band, but they belong to the entire world now. Please take good care of them. Especially when they take home an armload of Grammys on Sunday. And, also, I know you already own Some Nights. You probably don’t own Aim & Ignite, their debut record. You should.

Friday, February 8th

Ellie Goulding, St Lucia at The Fox Theater – Oakland

Ellie Goulding did date Skrillex. Please don’t hold that against her. Her dreamy brand of dance pop is incredibly infectious, and her live set is fantastic. She’s also starting to have some serious hits in the US, so don’t miss your last shot at seeing her in a theater.

Nashville Pussy, The Meat Sluts, The Fucking Buckaroos at Thee Parkside

Saturday, February 9th

OFF!, Negative Approach, Bad Antics at Great American Music Hall

We’ve all heard the news that Keith Morris has put together a band called Flag, featuring fellow former members of Black Flag, to do a set of the music of Black Flag. Until they start traveling around the country, we get one more go around with is current band, OFF!. These guys do it the classic style- they keep the songs short and fast. It’s all assault and no breathing room, the way rock & roll was intended.

Lewis Black at Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium

BroFX, Dance Party Boys, Commonwealth at Hotel Utah

The drummer for Judgement Day doing a NoFx set? Sounds good to me!

Sunday, February 10th

Garfunkel & Oates, Dragon Boy Suede at Rickshaw Stop

You are going to this. Of course you are. Because Simon & Hall aren’t touring anytime soon.

Foxtails Brigade, Odd Owl at Yoshi’s – San Francisco

Monday, February 11th

Ra Ra Riot, Pacific Air, Cayucas at The Fillmore

Tuesday, February 12th

Dr John at Yoshi’s – Oakland

Dr John is a legend of psychedelic New Orleans funk. He created a blissful, hypnotic, yet groovy form of music that has stood the test of time. He is playing a very intimate show at Yoshi’s in Jack London Square, and you would be foolish to not enjoy this gig.

Ralph Carney’s Serious Jass Project, The Cottontails at The Chapel

Wednesday, February 13th

The Stone Foxes, Magheeta, Black Cobra Vipers at The New Parish

With Two Gallants killing at the Fillmore last week and The Stone Foxes playing The New Parish this week, it seems that The Bay Area has become a bit of a hot bed for amazing southern rock. That isn’t a band thing at all, especially when the bands sound as good as this:
