Kacey Johansing is a local treasure. Her blend of folk and jazz is incredibly warm and sexy and feels like it was made for a beautiful vintage room like the Great American Music Hall. This is the best make out show of the week.

Lucius, You Won’t at The Independent
Lucius (not to be confused with St Lucia, playing the night before) are one of the most creative groups to pop onto the scene last year. Their debut record is a glorious blend in vintage girl group, neo-folk, and contemporary top 40 that nobody else is doing.

Michael Franti & Friends, Sheila E, Ozomatli, Orianthi, Goapele at The Fox Theater – Oakland
This is a benefit for Elevate Oakland, and organization that is fighting to improve arts and music programs in Oakland public schools. That should be a good enough reason to spend the money on a ticket to this show. However, this bill is mighty impressive. We have Oakland R&B legend Goapele, the young guitar virtuoso Orianthi, best known as Michael Jackson’s guitar player in This Is It, LA’s latin funk heroes Ozomatli, and, headlining are Michael Franti and Sheila E.

Delorean, Until The Ribbon Breaks at The Independent
Last year, Delorean were kidnapped by Mexican drug lords. It left them a bit shaken up, as one would expect. I’m not sure what there is to expect with this show, but it’s going to be one passionate performance by one of Spain’s finest exports.

Waters, Two Sheds, There’s Talk at Brick & Mortar Music Hall
Waters is the latest project from former Port O’Brien frontman Van Pierszalowski. They only have a few, subtle traces of the previous band. Instead, we have something significantly louder, catchier, and more danceable than your typical indie rock band.

Kid Congo Powers & The Pink Monkey Birds, Wax Idols, Dancer at Slim’s
Kid Congo Powers was a member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Gun Club, and The Cramps. His solo work is exactly what you expect if you were to fuse all three of these bands together.

Biffy Clyro, Morning Parade at Great American Music Hall
Partially thanks to Popscene, San Francisco has always been a great town for anglophiles. Almost every band comes through our fair city, with many arena size bands playing 400 cap clubs, giving you a sense of intimacy you won’t find anywhere else. This is one of those shows.
