You know what’s awesome about February? It’s one step closer to Noise Pop, Fauxchella, and SXSW. It may be a little slow, but there are plenty of reasons not to go to bed early this week.
Thursday, February 3rd
The Nels Cline Singers w/ Yuka C Honda, Paul Riola Quintet at The Independent
Nels Cline is one of the greatest avant garde musicians of our time, but in recent years has been working his pop chops with Wilco. Yuka C Honda is the woman behind the beautiful and fun sounds that made up the great Cibo Matto. I have no idea what this is going to end up sounding like, but I haven’t been this excited about a pairing in years.
JFK of MSTRKRFT, Nisis, Shank King at Mighty
Friday, February 4th
Cat Power, The Meek at The Fillmore
The brilliant, captivating, and stunning Chan Marshall hasn’t given the bay area a proper show in three years, making this appearance at The Fillmore all the more exciting. She doesn’t have anything new on the market, so expect a fun & loose show, but since this is Cat Power, it’s best to expect nothing, because you really never now what she’s going to do.
Grass Widow, Human Baggage, Death Sentence: Panda!, Bam! Bam! at Uptown Nightclub
FREE!!! And Grass Widow are AWESOME!!!
Saturday, February 4th
Devil’s Brigade, Roger Miret & The Disasters at Thee Parkside
Devil’s Brigade is Matt Freeman of Rancid/Operation Ivy’s psychobilly project that hopefully will tide you over until Rancid finally put out something new & start playing again. And, of course, Thee Parkside is one of the best places in the city to get your drunken punkiness on.
Scream, Deathtoll, Oppressed Logic, Visual Discrimination, The Need, Gunantanamo Dogpile at 924 Gilman St
Wouldn’t it be awesome if Dave Grohl rejoined the band? Just saying…
Sunday, February 6th
Sarah McLachlan at The Paramount – Oakland
You know what? Sarah McLachlan is pretty baddass. Even what she’s making you feel terrible for not adopting more pets…
Plain White T’s, Parachute, Miggs at The Fillmore
Monday, February 7th
Bluegrass Mondays! at Amnesia
Monday’s can be a little slow sometimes… Why not try something completely new? How about supporting the adventurous Amnesia Bar? This could be really awesome.
Tuesday, Feburary 8th
Sebadoh, Quasi at Great American Music Hall
Hopefully Sebadoh bringing Quasi out on their reunion tour will help encourage Janet Weiss to regroup Sleater Kinney. It’s a shame that Wild Flag is way too good for that to happen anytime soon. But the amazing Sebadoh haven’t toured in years, and nobody knows if they are going to stick with it.
Tina Dico, Lauren O’Connell at Swedish American Hall
Wednesday, February 9th
Cradle Of Filth, Nachtmystium, Turisas, Daniel Lioneye at The Regency Ballroom
England’s Cradle Of Filth are a rare black metal band that knows how to put on a great live show. They put on the kind of live show that would make Ziggy Stardust jealous, and some of the best “hooks” in the metal world. And they have a song called “Gilded Cunt.”
Thee Oh See’s, Sic Alps, Ty Seagull, The Sandwitches at Great American Music Hall
