It’s another week of live music, and, although it might seem to be a little slow, since every is getting amp’d for Noise Pop, there is still plenty of awesomeness. You may even get some things that you will never see again!

Secret Chiefs 3, Dengue Fever at Great American Music Hall
Since Mike Patton doesn’t seem interested in resurrected Mr Bungle anytime soon, Secret Chiefs 3 are the closest you will get. Trey Spruance, the other leader of Mr Bungle’s bursts of rock n roll weirdness is good fun. And, support act Dengue Fever’s Cambodian psychedelic rock is pretty awesome, too.

Reunions can either be depressing cash grabs or a beautiful chance to experience something you never thought you’d get to see. By all reports from their shows last fall, they were definitely the latter. And, as a bonus, you get to see the amazing Abigail Washburn: the leader in chinese/bluegrass fusion.

Greg Behrendt’s Bring The Rock at Cobb’s Comedy Club
Two years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing this show at Cobb’s. It was amazing: 4 comics and a house band, talking about music, and then performing the song with the band. It was one of the finest stage shows I have ever seen, and a wonderful treat for a music nerd like myself. This show features the brilliant and musically gifted Mary Lynn Rajskub, WTF host Marc Maron, Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and fellow funny people Todd Barry and Dave Anthony. And it will be awesome.

Superbowl XLVI: Men In Tights at The Roxie Theater
So, it seems that most venues go dark for Superbowl Sunday. Sucks for those of us that don’t care about football. However, I did stumble across this non musical event at The Roxie Theater, where several local comics will be ripping the Superbowl to shreds! And, if you are like me and only care about the halftime show, they will also be mocking Madonna’s big comeback performance, too!

Wet Illustrated, Magic Leaves, Noah Gunderson, Painted Palms at Brick & Mortar Social Club
Wood Shoppe is a brand new free monthly event at Brick & Mortar Social Club. Of course, if you like free live music, you should come out to the first one, just to make sure it happens. Of course, this line up is an excellent line up, and the only price is your muni fare and some reasonably priced drinks.

Young The Giant, Walk The Moon at The Fillmore
Kids these days seem to have the best taste… This power pop band are tons of fun, and have managed to cross over by taking the young ones in first, and, slowly, there fan base has broadened greatly. There’s nothing wrong with a good, solid pogo on a Wednesday night, either.
