Sic Alps, Bill Orcutt, Chris Forsyth, Meg Baird at Hemlock Tavern

Friday, January 11th

Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, Warm Soda at The Independent

Thee Oh Sees have been around forever, but may have finally created their magnum opus with 2012’s Putrifiers II, a record that breaks free from their usual garage rock tendencies, and is a beautiful piece of fuzzy guitar goodness. Warning: The following video is a bit NSFW.

Keane, Youngblood Hawke at The Warfield

Saturday, January 12th

Mondo Generator, Saviours, Wino at Bottom Of The Hill

Nick Oliveri might not have been invited to rejoin Queens Of The Stone Age, but that doesn’t mean he’s not working. In addition to Visto Chino, which is basically Kyuss without the legal ability to call themselves Kyuss, he’s still touring with his weird & heavy side project Mondo Generator. Prepare for some face melting goodness at Bottom Of The Hill this evening.

Sum 41, iamdynamite, Hunter Valentine at The Regency Ballroom

Sunday, January 13th

Cannibal Ox, Keith Masters at Brick & Mortar Music Hall

Tuesday, January 15th

Shabazz Palaces, Ensemble Mik Nawooj, Duckwrth at The New Parish

Shabazz Palaces is fronted by Ishmael Butler, who was best known as a member of Digable Planets, the brilliant group from the 90’s that fused together classic jazz and political hip hop. As expected, he remains ahead of the curve, putting together a brilliant record that might be one of the strangest hip hop records you will ever hear.

Religious Girls, Unstoppable Death Machines, Dead Meat at Hemlock Tavern

Wednesday, January 16th

Davina & The Vegabonds at Yoshi’s – Oakland

I love it when bands make it appoint to work around the guitar. It’s a bit overused of an instrument. Davina & The Vegabonds work without one, and, instead, do film noir inspired jazz and blue. A heavy accent in great storytelling and Davia’s fabulously expressive voice make for a fine night to hang out in Oakland.
