Who do you think the greatest live performer of all time is? Frank Sinatra? Madonna? Bono? Mandy Patinkin? There are a lot of names that could cross this list, but, somehow, P!nk has crawled under everyone’s radar to become, quite simply, the best arena act in the business. The spectacle that this woman puts on is the perfect show: combining theatrics, humor, acrobatics, and simply some of the best singing out there. Everyone needs to see P!nk some day. Why not today?

Thirty Seconds To Mars, New Politics at San Jose State Event Center
It’s really easy to hate this band. I mean, it is the band with Jared Leto as the frontman. Obviously, everyone thought Angela would be best off with Brian Krakow. Anyways, ignore this band because of the singer’s day job, and you are robbing yourself of one of the very few radio friendly alternative rock bands that are still actually challenging themselves. And it’s a fun & surreal live show.

John Fogerty at The Greek Theater – UC Berkeley
John Fogerty is a national treasure. He is arguably the most important living American songwriter, second to maybe Bob Dylan. He has written the Great American Songbook on his own as the leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, who were the best band to come out of the Bay Area in the 1960’s. Unless you count Sly & The Family Stone.

King Khan & The Shrines, Hell Shovel, Slipping Into Darkness at Slim’s
The best thing about the rock of the 60’s is that the best of it was made by folks that weren’t afraid to be weird. King Khan & The Shrines aren’t from the 60’s, but the pull from that wonderful insanity and combine it with ear pleasing hooks. It makes for great listening, and even better viewing in the live performance world.

Everyone loves Bryan Adams. We are just too embarrassed to admit it. However, whenever “Summer of ’69” or “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” comes on the radio, I can guarantee that you will be playing it as loud as can be, singing along at the top of your lungs. It’s humanly impossible not to.

Wavves are OK. They’ve got some good songs that you can dance to. They will not be able to succeed in following a genius band like King Tuff. Pure, unadulterated, rock n roll chaos. Bring ear plugs. And a parachute. Because you never know what’s gonna happen at a King Tuff show.
