I can easily see myself doing 7 days straight of shows… This week is amazing in the quality of shows we’ve got. Normally I need to do some research to make this list, but this time it all just slid right out. So, yeah, support live music!
Thursday, October 6th
Electric 6, Kitten, Mark Mallman at The Independent
Electric 6 are troopers… They mad it past the whole garage and dance punk movements, but kept playing live, honing their stage craft, and becoming one of the finest live acts in the country, even though their last big hits were 8 years ago. Opening the show is Kitten, a band of youngsters from LA that put on one of the most intense live shows around. Singer Chloe Chaidez is one of the most charismatic frontwoman in all of rock, which is especially impressive considering the fact that she is only 16 years old.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Twin Sister at Slim’s
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart do not sound like their name at all. They have managed to fuse together the layered, noisy melodicism of shoegaze, mixed with fun, danceable rock n roll. This is going to be a fun, high energy show, and well worth the $21 investment.

It took me far too long to figure out how to get tickets to see The Rapture’s for SF show since 2006. So, I did the work for you. All you gotta do is click on the above link, and you can see one of the finest bands to come from NYC’s Dance Punk movement.
Nuclear Rabbit, Jokes For Feelings, Jean Baudin, Glimpse Trio, CHT, Black Dream at 924 Gilman
There are plenty of unexpected reunions brewing, but this one is definitely one from out of left field. This bay area band followed our great history of heavy metal avant gardists. These guys managed to add a pop hook to metal jazz freakouts, and this might be a one off, so don’t miss this gig.

Monday, October 10th
Evanescence, The Pretty Reckless, Rival Sons at The Fox Theater – Oakland
Evanescence, at one point in time, were a pretty terrible band. I mean, that first record was awful. The, frontwoman Amy Lee fired everyone, and put out a stunning piece of dark, piano based heavy metal. She created a unique sound, the sound of Sarah McLachlan fronting Korn. And, of course, nobody purchased that album. They moved from arenas to theaters, and we will now get to see these folks in the right venue.

It’s great that, even though Toad The Wet Sprocket are a functioning unit, we still get solo Glen Phillips shows. He has one of the most beautiful voices to come out of the alternative rock era, and it’s profoundly moving to hear him accompanied by his guitar only.
