It’s here! Noise Pop 2010 starts today with two excellent shows, and your first opportunity to show-hop. Start at Bender’s Bar for the happy hour with Har Mar Superstar, and then cross the bridge (or better yet, take BART) to the Fox Oakland to see Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band. Many of your favorite Spinning Platters writers will be there. But then what? You’ve got a whole week of shows, and you’re not sure what to see?

Rogue Wave with Princeton, Man/Miracle, Two Sheds at Bottom of the Hill
Rogue Wave’s got a new album coming out next week, so expect to hear those songs tonight. Bring your clapping hands because there’s lots of clapping on Permalight. Princeton and Man/Miracle are both excellent, so show up early. Plus, it’s “sold out” so get there early to get any leftover tickets.

This is the Sunday afternoon show this year, an ongoing Noise Pop tradition that probably used to have free BBQ, an old Bottom of the Hill tradition that went away before I moved here, or at least before I heard about it. Maybe someone will cook some stuff and hand it out for free outside. If not, there’s always Visqueen, one of the best live acts out there. Just be nicer to Ben than the band is.
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes with The Watson Twins, AB & the Sea, The Northern Key at Bimbo’s 365 Club
This one will definitely have tickets at the door, so get here early and watch some openers. Opening acts are the lifeblood of Noise Pop, and AB & the Sea are going to get yours pumping. Just don’t think about Ima Robot when you watch Edward Sharpe or else you might get confused. When they do that song “Home,” you’re gonna be happy you’re here.
A Sneak Preview of a Film About Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields at Mezzanine
Word is that Stephin Merritt will be doing Q&A after this movie, so try not to miss that. Also, earlier today he’ll be at Amoeba in SF spinning records and signing.

The Magnetic Fields with Mark Eitzel at Herbst Theater
Forgot to see them on Saturday night in Oakland? By now, you’d have read the review on Spinning Platters and are depressed you missed out. Try Craigslist for tickets; this one is sold out, and Herbst isn’t great about releasing last minute tickets. It’s worth trying, though. This is a great venue for this band.
