Another Installment Of Our Continuing Series In Which We Control Your Social Life!

Monday, June 15th

Art Brut, Lovelikefire at The Independent, 8 PM

Art Brut came to be known in America during the early 2000’s, during the same round of danceable British band the included the likes of The Rakes and Franz Ferdinand. The major thing that separated them from the pack was having a pretty wicked sense of humor. (also appearing at Ameoba Music on Haight at 6 PM)

Jill Sobule, JD Souther at The Great American Music Hall, 8 PM

Tuesday, June 16th

The Shirelles featuring Beverly Lee at The Rrazz Room, 8 PM

Beverly Lee was one of the original members of The Shirelles, formed in 1958, and is often considered to be the first all-female vocal group of the rock n roll era. They brought the legendary songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David to prominence & were often covered by The Beatles in their early days. It’s very rare and very exciting to see any of the originators of  modern pop music, and this is a show not to be missed.  (Appearing nightly until June 21st)

Gene Ween, Claude Coleman Jr at The Independent, 9 PM

Wednesday, June 17th

Tippy Canoe, Pat Hull, The Corner Laughers at Hemlock Tavern, 9 PM

Tippy Canoe is the former drummer of East Bay power pop veterans The Kirby Grips, but has spent much time as of late working on her solo persona. She often performs solo ukulele, but has at some shows has her sound augmented by a drummer & upright bass player. Her sound is a bit of a New Orleans Hot Jazz and a bit of Wanda Jackson-inspired rockabilly.

Crystal Method, LA Riots at The Grand Ballroom, 8 PM

The Queers, The Mansfield, The Hot Toddies, The Atom Age at Bottom Of The Hill, 8:30 PM

Shellac, Arcwelder at Great Amercian Music Hall, 9 PM

Thursday, June 18th

Viva Voce, Cut Off Your Hands, Y La Bamba at Bottom Of The Hill, 9 PM

Cut Off Your Hands are from New Zealand. On record, they do a very solid blend of emo, brit-pop, and Buzzcocks inspired punk rock. Live, they are a frantic display of pure energy and solid musicianship that few bands are capable of.

Todd Rundgren at Slim’s, 8 PM

Sly & Robbie, Heavyweight Dub Champion at The Independent, 8 PM

Friday, June 19th

We Be The Echo, Martin Bisi, The Great Dictator at Hemock Tavern, 9 PM

We Be The Echo are instrumental prog-metal, kind of in the vein of Buckethead. You are gonna hear lots of shredding, plenty of chops, but just enough chaos to stop it from becoming a Joe Satriani concert.

PJ Harvey & John Parish at The Warfield, 8 PM

Trainwreck Riders, The Botticellis, Gilded Rooks at Bottom Of The Hill, 10 pm

Saturday, June 20th

Les Claypool, Yard Dogs Road Show at The Warfield, 8 PM

Yard Dogs Road Show is a traveling old-timey burlesque show. Expect to hear plenty of pre-rock inspired American Roots music, plenty of off-colour jokes, and plenty of dancing ladies! And, Les Claypool will be coming on afterwards attempting to top it.

Allen Toussaint Quartet at The Herbst,  8 PM

Sunday, June 21st

Roberta Flack, Davell Crawford at Stern Grove, 2 PM

The Stern Grove Festival kicks off on Father’s Day with Roberta Flack! Why not take your dad out to see a living legend outdoors in one of the finest outdoor music venues in California. Pack a picnic lunch and get there early, because space fills up mighty quickly!

Gavin Rossdale, Matt Nathanson, Sugar Ray, Parachute at Speedway Meadows (Golden Gate Park @ 25th Ave), Noon

Grizzly Bear, Here We Go Magic at The Fillmore, 9 PM
