Show Review: Corrosion of Conformity melt faces at GAMH!

Corrosion of Conformity, Whores., and Crobot hit Great American Music Hall halfway through their current (mostly) west coast tour, and all three bands were firing on all cylinders and melting faces along the way!

Corrosion of Conformity

Corrosion of Conformity didn’t need what was served up by their two support bands. Whores. and Crobot got the physical thrashing out of the way (more on this below…) so that Pepper Keenan and Co. could just rock the old-fashioned way for 90-minutes, with Woody Weatherman often channeling his best impression of Black Sabbath‘s Tony Iommi, and bass player Bobby Landgraf holding down the low end while being the most animated of the bunch. C.O.C. spent as much time on their latest album Good God / Baad Man as they did perform songs from their classic 1994 album Deliverance. Due to this, most of their nine other albums were nearly untouched in this set.

Crobot (from central Pennsylvania) opened the show with a very explosive half-hour set.

Crobot
Mostly it was singer Brandon Yeagley who was feverish and hyperactive, who never stopped moving, never stopped jumping, never stopped lunging his microphone stand forward in all different directions (only to pull it back by the cord before the next vocal kicked in). Crobot may have six albums since they formed in 2011, yet their set was made up entirely of new songs from their new album Supermoon that was just released in May!

Following was an equally ferocious set by Whores. (from Atlanta).

Whores.

Whores. has been active since 2010, however their 2024 release is their latest since 2016. Their nine-song set focused equally on 2024, on 2016, and on 2011 / 2013 combined. The same intensity can be found in all of their songs, regardless of the time period it was written.  Singer / guitar Christian Lembach screamed his lungs out for 40-minutes and occasionally lunged (a familiar theme of the show so far!) his guitar around in an effort to match the energy and passion of bassist Casey Maxwell, who never stopped thrashing about with his bass the entire time.

The night ended with a couple of Corrosion of Conformity’s most popular songs, leaving the nearly sold-out crowd in anticipation of seeing Pepper again very soon, with his other amazing southern sludge / stoner metal band Down (fronted by Pantera‘s Phil Anselmo), in October at Aftershock festival in nearby Sacramento!
