SF MusicTech Summit 7: Why Attend and How to Save on Admission

In less than a week, the seventh installment of the biggest and best day-long music technology conference to ever grace the Bay Area will take place on Monday, December 6th at Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco’s Japantown district. If you’re an artist, music journalist, or involved in any facet of the industry, then you certainly don’t want to miss out on the sessions or, quite frankly, the abundance of opportunities to network and learn from some of the leaders and innovators in this space. After the jump, find out more about the event and how you can save money simply by being a reader of Spinning Platters…

Pandora's Tim Westergren

Three years ago, Brian Zisk and his lovely wife, Shoshanna, started the Summit and since then, it has grown exponentially to become a must-attend event. Past speakers and attendees include Pandora founder Tim Westergren, TopSpin CEO Ian C. Rogers, Gracenote’s Ty Roberts, acclaimed cellist Zoe Keating, IRIS Distribution founder Bryn Boughton, iPad DJ Rana Sobhany, Pampelmoose/former Gang of Four’s Dave Allen, and too many more to mention in this post alone. The roster for the forthcoming event is certainly no less impressive. Thought leaders from YouTube, Google, Mashable, thesixtyone, Rhapsody, and MOG, just to name a few, have generously shared their invaluable knowledge and experiences of working in an industry that may be volatile but is also more rewarding than most + constantly evolving.

Self-made artists like Zoe Keating are truly inspiring.

Personally, I have attended every single SF MusicTech Summit conference and have never left with anything less than a feeling of complete gratitude gained from the knowledge I acquired coupled with the incredibly passionate, inspiring people I have met. I can honestly say that I might not be working in the music tech space at the moment had it not been for the connections I’ve made through this incredibly vibrant, unique community Brian and Shoshanna have cultivated.

Max Mathews is the pioneer of computer music.
