Rough week. Guess I was getting my comeuppance for not doing this for a while. [Editor’s Note: It’s OK. The transition from Lala to alternate listening methods hurt us all.] Some straight up dogs out this week. There were a few highlights though. Read on dear readers.
Psychic Chasms by Neon Indian – Super disco beats man. Makes me put my left hand on my hip, and sway those hips around. A lot of time it sounds like music for some sitcom from the eighties that revolves around changing gender roles.
The Threshingfloor by Wovenhand – You know that guy on BART who has long hair, wears all black, looks like he’s all Goth and shit but then he’s carrying a bunch of potted flowers? He probably listens to this.
TEN by Jason Moran – Gah! Jazz!
shake/shiver/moan by 22-20s – I can’t get a bead on these guys. Sometimes like a depressing-less-good-poppy-Beatles-sound other times just poppy.
Subconscious by Samantha James – Blarg, I guess you’d like to listen to this while getting a facial before a night out with the girls. Cosmos, financial districts, and high heels wait.
Freedom II by Everliven Sound – Even your friends look at you like a pile of shit…that is a line from Survivalist. So you can guess the kind of hip-hop this is.
Electric Eye by Robbers On High Street – Loopy, pop vocals with upbeat tempo…it’s good if you’re super-excited about life.
Blink by Revive – So you’ve never listened to anything but radio hits? You’d like this.
Southern Gothic by The Constellations – Sounds like Smash Mouth got a new band.
Tattoos & Tequila by Vince Neil – Umm, well like a weaker Ronnie James Dio.
Alpha by The Break Mission – The first track started out not bad, then it got annoying. But then I gave the second track a chance. Wrong thing to do.
Baby Shake-em by Brooke Waggoner – I’m sad rdio thought his was an entire album, it’s a single. It was the only thing that was halfway good this week.
Avenue Boulevard by Avenue Boulevard – This wasn’t half bad either. So that’s better than par for this week. Totally a droning rock album, but decent. Heavy and slow drum beats, coupled with moaning guitars.
Nora Jane Struthers by Nora Jane Struthers – This sounds like your typical folk-bluegrass sung by a lady. But then you listen to the lyrics of the first track and they’re TWISTED. This album I like a lot, Nora has a great voice and the lyrics are good. Finally, something good on rdio this week.
Stories by Addison Road – Sounds like Nellie Frutato or however the hell you spell it. Gross.
Scream by Ozzy Osbourne – The first track kinda blows, but then the rest of the album is good enough to watch the World Cup to.
Wu Music Group presents Pollen: The Swarm, Pt. 3 by Wu-Tang Clan – This is a Wu-Tang album. Another one. It features your favorites and it has good songs. As usual.
Night & Day by Chief – I was tryin to imagine the type of person who’d listen to this. I think bluegrass-festival attendees looking to “branch-out.”
Pimps & Preachers by Paul Thorn – Has a real earthy sound to him. By earthy I mean plain ole America. By that I mean mediocreness and clichés.
I don’t know what Rdio was thinking, but for some reason I don’t see reviews of The Roots, Stars, or Kele. All three of these are worthy of mention.
Where’s Miley?
Sorry guys, Rdio had none of those albums…someone want to hook me up with a mog account?
Where’s Eminem ?
