I’ve been in Seoul for the past couple weeks so I’ve had a bit of a break. Fortunately I could ease in this week since it didn’t really seem like much came out. One really hilarious album came out this week, so if you get a chance you should listen to Pretty Ricky for some lighthearted fun.
Waking Up by OneRepublic – I am having a hard time telling if this album is good or bad. It’s like some sort of exotic flower that attracts you into it’s bulbous base but you may never get out alive. Sounds a little like Jamiroquai hitting a positively indiepop stride.
Before I Self-Destruct by 50 Cent – Sounds pretty boring. The cadence reminds me of some Missy albums. It’s definitely a hit or miss album. Stretch is one of my favorite tracks but that’s because it has an E-40 feel. This album is like a poorly done Photoshop mockup.
My World by Justin Bieber – This child is 15. He sounds like a 10 year old school girl. Pretty much makes me want to head to a soda pop shop and share a malt with the popular girl. The production is pretty extensive.
Echo by Leona Lewis – Nothing really sets this album apart from any other overnight-pop-star creation. It’s polished and produced. Chubby 8 year old boys would love this album.
Battle Studies by John Mayer – I still don’t quite get how Mayer is always on cool shows with cool people. Maybe he is an awesome dude to hang out with and do skits about how bad his music is. I’ve never liked his albums although I hear he shreds live. This album makes me want to run away because I see my 18 year old naive self really enjoying this album while figuring out ways to get the girl I love to leave her boyfriend for my pure and unique love.
The Fall by Norah Jones – I remember when I first heard Norah Jones. I was in the passenger seat, sleepily listening to the radio station after a DMB concert. I thought it was the most awesome thing I heard. This was like 10 years ago and Jones is still making the same noises. She is really great to have in the background, say, if you’re in a hookah bar or something. But listening to this for its musical intellectualism won’t be happening.
Kris Allen by Kris Allen – Am I being punished for being in South Korea and having fun? JEESUZ I can’t listen to anymore pop. Yeesh.
Pretty Ricky by Pretty Ricky – “My sex drive is times a million trillion.” There are a lot of people hating on this album on lala.com, I’m not sure why.
The Dear Jack EP by Jack’s Mannequin – Well, if you like music to listen to while you’re taking a bath that lasts all day due to your deepening depression, then this would make a great addition to your potential playlist.
Them Crooked Vultures by Them Crooked Vultures – Love the lo-fi sound so I love this album.
The Seventh Seal by Rakim – This is pretty much the best hip-hop album I’ve listened to in a while. I guess if you’re not into Rakim that would be lame. Also if you feel disillusioned or tired with hip-hop this will reinvigorate you.
Felt 3: A Tribute To Rosie Perez by Felt – Nowhere near as good as the Rakim, why should I even bother?
76 Trombones by Dan Zanes – Well I don’t know. Sounds like hipster-sentimentalism to me.
March On Electric Children by The Blood Brothers – Hardcore mayhem on here. Usually the screaming and such scares me, but for some reason it works because of the erratic production. This is like watching the world end, but taking pleasure in it.
New Moon by Swallow The Sun – Metal that is very ballady. Hard to explain, but hardly interesting.
Ghost by Tape Deck Mountain – Sounds a little bit like Home on Sexteen but with a more moody sound.
Nine Ways by The Chairs – The track “Biggest Fan” is pretty awesome. Clean, easy, and enjoyable. Almost like a Bud Light. Sound like a cross between early Weezer and The Unicorns.
Whatever by White Fang – There is a limit to how alterna- and lo-fi a band can be. I wonder what they sound like without all the shitty recording quality. Maybe just fine, but they make me suspicious. Suspicious of suckage.
A Footprint Of Feelings by Moonlit Sailor – Dreamy, trippy jams. Feel like I should be putting this into the car’s CD player after I quit my job and decided to drive out east with no real plan or destination.
Words of the Knife by Mark Matos & Os Beaches – I think this is perfect for fans of Vetiver. Super laid back music. This is a pretty good album, I am glad I waited to listen to this.

I actually stumbled upon one of Pretty Ricky’s music videos last night On Demand while trying to watch a Primus video.
I had to stop it immediately. It was so bad, I felt embarrassed just watching it.
